Bonjour! We had good attendance for last week's desert WTE, hope as many people are as interested in this one!
Weekly Terraining Exercise #28
For this week I've got something that's a lot harder than it sounds - I want you to replicate a (part of) a terrain from a random campaign mission without looking at it. Basically, try and figure out a mission you liked and replicate a (part of) the terrain from memory as good as possible. Alternatively, you can view this as a "your take on a campaign map" exercise - I want to see Mapster versions of original campaign maps. Please mention which map you were recreating, and if you feel like it, post comparison screenshots.
I have a feeling this might be too hefty a task, but I'm still wondering what people will come up with and how their creations will compare to the originals. Give it your best, folks!
Last time I played a campaign mission was a couple of months ago. I hope I can remember something.
Well, it's pretty similar for me... So, if it is ok, I wont try to recreat a specific mission, but make a map where a mission could take place, with possibly the iinspiration of the campaign.
@Telthalion: Go
GJ, as much as I remember, its pretty similar :D
I liked Telthalion's submission and the only real difference I could see from heart was that the Terran's southern ramp only goes westward. In the real mission, there was also a diagonal ramp going along the south edge of that cliff, where you've placed rocks.
That said, shame we got so little attention for this one, I was genuinely curious how people would work this out. I'll guess I'll do something simpler for next week that's less intimidating for people who are new. I need to find something that more people find interesting, I guess.
When I played the mission, I didn't really paid attention to the terrain. I tried, but when I look back at maps, it totally didn't match my maps. I hope there a more interesting tomorrow.
It isn't meant to, though. It was more of an experiment about what parts of a terrain stay stuck in someone's head. If you had remade the special mission and everything up to the grated-floor "mech bay" was spot on, it could tell us something about how specific laboratory pieces stick with people better.
Tethalions entry is pretty darn nice, but I played that mission on brutal for about a week straight, and many of the choke points that were designed aren't there. And there was also two sets of mineral patches and 3 geysers :P
I'm trying to think of a mission I could terrain without to much work, the problem being is that the campaign maps were rather large considering this is only a weekly exercise...
I mentioned that in the OP, though. Seems like everybody is 'overestimating' my theme =P. I can imagine you can't be arsed recreating a full map - hence why I'm saying that doing a small part would work just as well. Say, only the plaza where the Odin turns upon the Dominion.
Well, instead of making this WTE, I played sc2 >.< So, I wont have time to post something until the next WTE, and I don't think I will post something :S . Next week I will ! =)

Here's my take on the final mission.
The outlying zerg bases aren't entirely polished; the main focus is on the player base where 90% of the action happens.
This one was a bit more difficult than the desert terrain for sure. And I'm not nearly as satisfied with my final product.

Working on projects:
I'll try to post something up later this week. I have lurked these forums for too long!
I will probably work this weekend on this, but... I think there are some better exercice subject. Hope next one will be funnier :P
