Hello folks! Is it snowing in your countries yet? It's cold here in Holland, but no snow thus far. Tying in to what seems appropriate, this week's theme is 'Christmas'! Show me any kind of terrain that comes to mind when thinking of that word. Here's another link to that Niflheim tileset that might be of use to some of you.
Hey folks! We're gonna be taking it easy these holidays and extend this WTE for a week, with a little addition; for this week, new years' style of terrains will also be welcome! Enjoy your holidays, and good luck mapping if you get around to it :)
Well i felt like doing a fun one to kick things off, not too serious but kinda funny if you played the campaign :) two sworn enemies come together to cut down a Christmas tree and celebrate the Holiday lol
would you guys mind if i use these threads for critiques on irrelevant terrains
?
Yes?
If you mean that as in "I'm going to give my opinion on terrains that have absolutely nothing to do with this thread and aren't even posted here", then why would you even want to do that?
My first Terraining Exercise, so it's not perfect.
Who says that the Zerg don't celebrate Christmas? Of course they do! And if they celebrate it, then Santa has to come in his Heavy-Duty 10 cm Neosteel armor!
Liking the spirit so far, good submissions from all *grins*
Brownielover; try and put some...thing on the high ground in the foreground of your screenshot. That would fill up the whole image more and spice the whole area up. Also, use some terrain elevation :)

Also one more suggestion(NOT SURE IF THIS WOULD WORK), but you could make it so that teh actor for creep has a white tint to it, so it looks Wintery.
EDIT: I checked into it the creep is a texture, but Sc2mapster has a Snow creep texture if you wish to further your map I would suggest starting there :D
Just a thought.

sorry about the delay... what i meant was i'm making a map and i'd like opinions, thnks :D
I had been playing some skyrim yesterday so i had wanted to make this :) , i had tried to make one of the trees look snowy but it just looks kinda weird and it takes like 200 doodads if i lined all the branches lol so i just partially finished 1 snowy tree. I also kinda went crazy with the rocks trying to make every single one look unique. also the snow dots are kinda small so if you are just looking at the small pictures it doesn't show the snow falling. Once HOTS comes out these terrains will be so much easier to make lol.
EDIT: There i improved upon it, thanks Mozared i had forgotten to do the lighting real quick (the map posted does not have the modified lighting)
and i wish there was a simple way to make trees and other things look like they had snow on top of them without driving yourself insane lol.
Wow, I love that Joe! You just need a way to make the sand a little bit whiter and then it'll be perfect. I like what you've done with the tree, even though it looks terribly pixelized. Also, maybe you should clear some of the 'snow' around the campfire - logically it would burn and show the mountain's dirt.

@Mozared: Go
There's not much inspiration where I live. Everything's just brown :\

@Mozared: Go Well, like I've said, it's my first time. Great at triggering, bad at terraining :)

I know, hence the reason I'm giving you soms tips :)
I got lazy on mine, Didnt feel like doing the snow or more lights on the tree LOL, I prob could have just stolen stuff from WoW and made it perfect :D

Here's a small "preview" of my christmas terrain. Still needs some extra filling, ornaments and actual inhabitants.
