I'm impressed Reaper. Never really liked much of your terrain and you've always pointed out yourself that you were really new to it. This looks pretty damn decent. I'm sure you can improve upon it, but it seems you've made some really good progress overall. Nice work!
thanks Mozared. This is what happens when you have a few hours to burn at your house and you don't feel like playing Marine Arena. Of course I can work on the texture and add a few things but overall, it looks as good as the first campaign mission at least to me. It still needs that final "professional touch" if you will to put it over the edge. I'm just looking for the best method to get it. It kinda sucks to learn that you never liked any of my work until now, but then again, it's to be expected. This is actually my first somewhat preplanned project that actually worked out. I'm probably going to add other stuff too. Do you have any ideas on what would put it over the edge? You still don't seem to be blown away... O well I really don't care. I went from a 32/32 square to a small Dominion base. At least I impressed myself :)
Part of the reason you haven't seen too much of my work is that I found this great new game called "World of Tanks." If you're at all into war and third person games, serously check it out. It isn't army vs army though. It's 14 player controlled tanks vs 14 player controlled tanks.
Check out the vid if you want to see a bit of it.
Anyway I'm going to do some renovations and additions to this before I post anything else. It's up to 40/40 now and It's going to get bigger. I hope it will turn into an RPG or mission or something with the help of trigger people later. But for now it's going to get better looking.
The reason I don't seem blown away is because I'm not =P. Don't get me wrong - I love the improvement you've made, I just think right now you're up to a 'pretty decent' level and not a 'holy damn that's awesome' level. With that terrain at least.
There's still some things dragging it down. It feels a bit crowded. Some doodads are out of position (fences seem to not fully connect?). Some of the larger doodads are oddly positioned, creating a somewhat weird lay-out. Some areas just don't seem to fit in too well. Plus, there's a lot of ways you can improve the borders and make the textures seem even more interesting.
Improving all those points should turn it into a pretty pretty base of some real quality.
Well I have been reworking the left side of the fence a bit and it looks better. Doing that also made it a bit larger so there is more room to work with. I also added quite a few things outside the base. It's pretty self explanatory what I did really. I hope it's getting to the point where it actually is starting to look at least slightly impressive. I messed with the lighting and I like where it ended up better now. The darkness also hides some of the texture dilemmas which I did fix much of.
hehehe look at the billboard in the 2nd last pic, just noticed that, lol. That's also my favorite pic out of the lot. It's hard to get good angles of a circular base but I tried.
I'll not take up any more of your time tonight. We are all busy doing our own things right?
O nice thanks. I am having a very hard time making a slightly less than mini project of my own. It's going alright but I'm quickly running out of ideas.
Are you using this terrain for a sort of melee-ish map? Like the ones in the campaign? If so, then I would suggest that you try to make the terrain textures a bit more interesting by adding more the bottom areas.
That looks great! I would, though, suggest that you show the skybox. You can do that by holding control and scrolling down. Also, the first and second terrains look a bit flat. One more thing, in the first terrain, I would probably try to change that border between the grass and concrete at the bottom left. Other than that, I'd say those terrains are great.
actually I was going to make a hold out mission like the "Zero Hour" campaign mission but it would be the Dominion holding out vs the rebels or something. I really just liked the whole defend the base or be overrun idea. The terrain can't be overly complex as I need to keep things like lag down as I may end up using it for something.

Also, in my humble opinion, the whole thing looks a bit flat. It could use a variety of heights.
huh that's odd. I did use noise and it made it a bit hilly in some places. O well it's too late to do anything else now.
I figure I might as well keep this thread alive with a new mini-terrain :D

That's okay, but it looks a bit empty.
Here is some of mine. ^^

I know but what do I fill it with is the question.
