Hey guys, first cinematic I've been working on. This is only with about a months experience with triggers and editing maps etc. Let me know what you think!!
I have to say it's pretty cool. Considering the power of the sc2 editor for cines, we actually haven't seen many...
Love the slow and dark opening. Sound work is good and fits the scenes. I love that spanish-style music blizzard made! I've used it once... so good!
Now for ways to improve which I'm sure you're already aware of:
1. You can tell the choppiness a bit in some of the scenes. Fraps is a hog, but I'd suggest lowering far clip or a bit of graphics since you scenes are not wide open terrain (aside from the end one).
2. The convo text was hard to read on 360p youtube. Perhaps consider a subtitle bar through post-editing or transmission it ingame somehow.
3. I was a bit confused with how the flashback worked... I think you need to have the doctor say "here, have a look" and then cut to the zooming into the screen and WHILE this is happening, have a little text from the marine-guy saying "That's always the case with..." Well, I'm just being honest. I was initially confused when he said "here, have a look" and then the marine/raynor said another thing and then it zoomed in and then suddenly we were in the past. What I think may help this is related to number 4:
4. Lighting is really good but I'd suggest theming it more. E.g. When they enter this room in the present, it should be darker (lower ambient, and up the contrast in the map's light in the data editor). Since the area has been compromised by the Alien, it should probably be more dark with flashing lights or w/e you can find. Consider dropping omni lights in places around computer screens etc to give it a more realistic and less "global lighting" feel. But not too dark as even night scenes in hollywood movies are bright lol...BTW your outdoor lighting was really cool.
Here are some screencaps from my failed blizzcon cine I did of indoors/ruined area:
I hope those images help you see what I'm trying to explain. The ambiance is darker in some scenes... but little placed lights can really improve the look. Keep in mind everything I'm saying is my own opinion though; do what suits you best!
5. The flickering black-screen when we watch the alien could be replaced imo; Maybe consider just tinting the flashback scene green/blue like an old monitor or television. This way it'll be differentiated better from the present time.
Anyway, great job and look forward to more :D
Edit: and a tip would be to record in Slower game mode if you aren't already, and then speed it up in editing to be normal time. This will give you more freedom and maybe cause less lag.
