Damn... that's... just so cool. How on earth did you get the lighting to look so nice?
I dunno how well it fits the theme though, TBH.
Modifying the bloom and the specular values usually adds a very nice effect I tend to abuse :P
And it fits the theme, from my initial concept, in the way that I was hoping that the 2 dead Nydus Worms and the corpses of the Zerglings would stick out a bit more and give it the feel of a Zerg tunnel where someone just went through and "cleaned" it up, if you know what I mean, and what we're seeing is a part of that tunnel when the zerg have been eliminated.
Now here's my crappy attempt. :]
This is my first map outside of just messing around, so I had a hell of a time with it. Figuring out how to adjust the lighting... set up creep... overlap doodads... move the camera... view the weather effects... view the skybox... take screenshots.... I think it turned out alright though.
My concept was "the fall of Tarsonis." Inspired by Raynor's nightmare from the game.
I think that the use of that smoke/fog thing combined with that skybox works extremely well together. The ruined Tarsonis wall infront of the 2 Hydralisks looks a bit out of place though, but good job! :3
You're welcome, and thank you as well. I appreciate the advice. :]
The weather effect is "Dust Storms," in case you were curious. And yeah, I see what you mean, haha! Video game sky of doom...
You can just attach them straight to your post. I know it works with WikiCreole, anyway.
Ahh, I see. Cool concept! I guess I was just so distracted by the lights that the Zerg didn't stick out. ;]
Thanks for your comments, especially re: the lighting. That really helped! I'm experimenting with a night scene this time.
Well I noticed that some of the maps [like Tarsonis] don't have skyboxes. I had to add mine manually. I just went into the Data Editor under "Terrain Texture Sets", selected "Background Model (Fixed)", and selected the Mar Sara skybox. Then I reloaded the map, and voila!
You may also need to reduce the clipping [with Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Down] for the sky to show up, according to what I read.
I dunno which maps have skies, and which ones you have to edit... didn't really get into that. But either way. I hope that helped. :]
Been some really nice maps in this thread already, tried to do something a bit different myself. Although I couldn't quite avoid the temptation to bring in a small zerg invasion, the seismic disturbances caused by the zerg's tunneling advance is what really doomed this small research outpost.
Wanted to give this another try, so here we go. Tried to do something different (again), it's maybe not a place where some disaster has broken loose very recently, rather, it's the destruction of an old temple over a very long time by the forces of nature, and the place is now very much dead apart from the vegetation that has reclaimed what was once sacred ground.
May look a bit cluttered on the screenshots, but hopefully it comes out ok, looked better in the editor :)
