I really like the dark/purple mix here. Really combine well. I think you could make some more ground texture play and add some stuff on the cliffs / walls.
Welcome aboard sir. It's been a while since last time i saw a newcomer to mapster. Its not something that frequent now-a-days. Anyway, your terrain is interesting, but i suggest you to try to make the water flat and black with 100% reflection. This will make the island feels really alone. You could then add some small sphere or whater star-looking-ish doodad here and there mixed with the reflexion so it will feel far in space... maybe. Note that reflection does not reflect HRD on the units so if you use HDR it might feel weird. But you dont use that currently.
For those who wonder why i am not posting terrain, I've been working recently on the Dynamic Terrain Editor. I got Pitch and roll working fuck yeah :D And i am now working on getting the tint color with sliders dialog item. It 'works' but i still have some issues with the slider. Once i find what the hell is not working, eh the doodad section of the DTE will pretty much be complete and ready to make some awesome terrains. I really want to get the DTE in an 'ok' state so we can show it and share it maybe.
Color wise, it feels cool, design wise it looks cool, but overall, I'm lost. I don't know what I am looking at, other than seeing either huge zeratul with some preservers or normal zeratul with small preservers... It like a strange mess of purple orange.
When I look at the first picture, the first thing that came to my mind was Zeratul doing agriculture. I don't know, like, if he went to the very end of times and saw only oblivion, so he started his own little farm in the void to keep as much living thing possible. xD
Random question to everyone, if 'we' (me and the other dev of starparty) decide to share the DTE, would anyone be trying it at least? :P To make terrain and see its potential. Maybe even make terrains for minigames ;)
The Dynamic Terrain Editor is an in-game editor similar to the galaxy editor but with the possibility to save your terrain as a string allowing you to load it whenever you want wherever you want. For example in StarParty (the mario party kind of game) we use it to dynamicly load the minigames's terrain instead of having all the doodads pre-placed. It also makes the game loading screen much faster because it doesn't have to create all the actor before entering the game. And it makes the map lighter because having a single long string is much lighter than having 500 placed doodads. Our limit of doodad per save is currently 1000 because when you get around 800+ doodads, it can takes a while to load up and starcraft feels like it froze, but it's just loading the models. I made a terrain with that many doodads and loading it can take between 3 to 15 sec where 15sec is on a very low end comp. It's not bad at all but it's still a very big lag.
Also, the DTE since it is a map that can be published, we also built it so it allows multiple players working at the same time on the same terrain. It works great, except there is more latency cause of battle.net so its not as easy as in local play, but it works. So you can show and share your terrain with whoever you want on the battle.net just by loading in the game and loading your string. The strings are saved in your bank file.
It's a pretty cool tool because if you simply add the load triggers to your map, you can load any terrain based on the string. :D
That is pretty cool. I'd definitely check it out, though not being much of a terrain guy (what am I doing replying in this forum then, hah), I don't know how much use I'd get out of it. The coolest thing you said though was the multiple people working on terrain at once. Starcraft 3 should totally expand upon that idea to allow multiple people to work on all aspects of a map at once!

Alright so I tried to make a black hole as that is what first came to mind when I thought of the "void" but it turned into pretty colors, lol.

I like it. Now if you turned it into a unit that moved around it could be a boss fight.

Wow, it looks almost like a background picture. xD

This is last but not least version of The Void.

Define DTE.

I'd use the DTE for sure. Idk what I'd use it for but it'd be cool. Maybe a make your own RPG or something winky like that.

God damn, you got a pretty cool idea! We should make a WTE themed on backgrounds. Am I right, Moz?
Here's the last batch of pictures I'll post in here :)
The rest of the pictures are in the attachment! But first, here's a preview!

Im interested, when will this DTE be up? I will like more details on it.
