I really dont have time for this, but I used to do such concepts on tiniests maps for a while. SO I am gonna share what I had made accross the years haha.
Some of my favs are more recent however, and implementations of them are being used for Episode 3, so I cant sahre those... yet!
The first real terrain that I've ever done. It was a lot of fun!
I do have one question though - How do you select the fog doodads once they're placed so that you can manipulate them (i.e. move them around, resize them, etc.)? It doesn't seem like I am able to select them by clicking on them. Thanks for the help!

Great job guys always looking to see what is been made here. Specially by the new kids on the block. Now scbroods knows how i love his camera shots. Alevice with his sexy screenshots always really lovely to see.
Welcome to the WTE were terrain is always welcome and review by scbroodsc2 and others. I like to see new terrain in any shape or texture. I use to struggle till scbroodsc2 tough me a few tricks and as I aways say "MORE ROCKS PLEASE" Rocks are usually a good idea or a must have in a terrain. Exceptions are there but even a platform mix up with an asteroid deserves to have rocks. The editor doodad selection can be doubting and sometimes scary. As a first rule to do terrain think of what environment you want to show up then go for the terrain selection make your layout. Then doodads selection. When going for the choosing always open this http://www.screference.op74.net/doodads.html This link is a most for me thanks to scbroodsc2 and thinking how to be more productive and deliver work on time. He has created this so doodad choosing dosent have to be an event of losing hair.

So much credit. Sometime I wonder if I really helped you so much haha. I guess so over the years. You like to do melee maps, I guses we could make one for TL map contest. themusic from StarParty also wishes to try something. I though about a Cybros terrain (since there are none on the ladder map) mixed with Aiur temple for the low ground. Mixing our skills would most likely result in a very cool looking map. The hard thing would be balancing for ladder game, while having a little cool thing to make it unique but not unbalanced.
Great job Lucid. The Green along with the contrast looks really good the opening of a temple that is really cinematic. I love it.
Now since we look like we are giving good advice on mapmaking BLIZZARD decided to copy what we do here on the WTE and be upfront about some techniques.
Yeah I saw that thread and said complementary stuff such as scaling the doodads to fill more space or using the generate foliage only in areas you need it so it does not spawn everywhere.
I feel like this thread blizzard did is also complementary of the Teamliquid map contest. Blizzard most likely did not do a post like this randomly for no reason.
Oooohhh, Mozared, I got an idea! What if... all of us terrainer decided to create one map for the contest? So we can all help eatch others, all add our little stuff and ideas and send suggestion, etc. so we can really push the map to a balanced level and visually appealing terrain. I believe we are a couple people that would like to make a map... and about the reward in case of winning...I guess we'll see.
That's not a bad idea. Previously when I've hosted joint-terraining style exercises I've tried to discourage people from altering each others' terrain to prevent folks from stepping on toes, but a WTE where we all make one melee map and do actively try to improve each others' work may be worthwhile. As long as people can deal with adjustments and work well together (instead of going "why did you remove my X?!" or objectively making areas worse), it's worth a try.
Welcome to the WTE, Jay! I sort of like what you did, but there's some room for improvement. Scbroodsc2 has already given you some pretty clear indications of how to improve your terrain, though, so I haven't got much to add.
Welcome back Cacho, I loved your terrains back in the day - it's definitely been a while! I quite like what you've done here; you've played around the small area restriction by simply using a space theme so that black borders don't seem weird. My only issue is that the missile turret on your platform is so incredibly grey that, even for a deactivated turret, it seems a bit too bland. Perhaps something slightly colorful would work better?
I like some of those, I don't like others. In particular, the first shot is a great mood-setter and would work amazingly in an introduction cinematic for a map. The fourth one seems a bit too drab, but still great for a moody playable section, and the same goes for the last picture. I will say that some texture play could improve that bit though: save the dark tiles for the higher ground and ramps and put some more variations of dirt on the ground level.
Welcome to the WTE, Deltron! I like what you've got so far. One point of improvement I can see is in the fact that the playable area is a bit ill-defined, making the whole thing look more like a painting or such than an actual terrain. Perhaps putting some actual borders and switching up your color palette slightly would help here.
Simple, but I like it. It's a strong scene and it'd work as a part of a map. I do think it could be improved slightly if the walls were just a tad less rigid and boring; perhaps some sort of small, inlaid crystal on either side would help with that?

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely agree that the playable area is hard to discern and that the entire thing is a little too one-color. I feel like terraining is one of those things that after working on a map for some time, you need to come back a day or so later and look at it with a fresh perspective to improve upon it no matter how good you think it is already.

Definitely! Terrain is something that is practically never finished. I can pick up any terrain I've worked on for hours and look at it and still find small bits of texture to alter, doodads to change and objects to move. It's both a pro and a con :P
Eatch player could post screens of what they added, modified, moved, removed... with why they did that. This way you can keep track of it...more or less.
I wanna try some pictures of our SCRTGW (Yeah i know is an adaptation of SCMR, we've already have them on the credits front page)
Mission 9 rebel yell, heavily inspired from the WoL Cutscene "Betrayal", it is a more war torn environment instead of a generic platform
Mission 7 the fall, zeratul and tassadar vs the conclave, i made it on a way that shows you that a great battle just happened on a sacred ground (is a very old screenshot so there's a bugged dragoon that is red instead of yellow :/)
Mission 10 Eye of the Storm, if Mass Recall choosed the "quiet journey on the jungle theme" myself instead choosed the "hell on earth" theme, i retextured all the map, i added and modified most of the doodads, changed fog and lighting and made the atmosphere exactly like the one on the final cinematic where the sky is red and everything looks like is ready to blow up, very evil Overmind right here, ser Diablo guided my hand on this map
I love really hard Narudek/CybrosX custom models and quick-but-hard missions, so i decided to do a "poster" picture for the first three campaigns (vortex of the void one doesn't look very good imho)
Here we can see Kelysa empire at his max power, he is ready to lead the final assault on the dark protoss base to can hatch her ultimate weapon
Here we are with Radgar leading his own brood, smaller but stronger of Kelysa's one
