As the holiday is slowly ending, it seems everybody's getting back to work. As such, I figured we'd tie in the first WTE theme for this new (working/studying) year with the current proceedings. The idea behind the "Back to Business" theme is for you folks to terrain a scenario where a city, hive, temple (or what-have-you) is being rebuild after having been destroyed in a war. Picture the reconstruction of a broken down city, the restoration of a temple or the healing of a brood hive - or something built by a completely different race.
Curious to see what we'll get. Good luck everyone, and have fun!

I do enjoy making these when I can, even if most of what I make anymore for these is a one directional pic :)
Nice terrain! If I had to give some feedback on what could be improved, I'd say that first off, add some more rocks. Secondly, perhaps try to mix up the terrain textures a little bit? The backsides of the sand dunes in the background looks a bit odd to me. Maybe painting some darker sand on the backs of them could make it look a bit more natural.
The scaffolding that you're using for the new buildings under construction looks great up close, but once it gets far away and out of detail, it just starts to look like a mess. I'd recommend trying to make it a bit simpler in scaffolding behind the statue by using fewer, larger doodads. In the foreground, I'd perhaps add some more detail, such as small plants by that machine (?) buried in the sand and some small rocks. Since you're using a campaign model in the foreground, I think that warrants a bit more detail. Finally, the small area under the sun looks very empty. Perhaps try to find something to fill that space?
It's great that you enjoy making these. We all enjoy seeing what you make.
Thanks! I agree with what you have said, some more detail up close certainly, and making the scaffolding look cleaner would help this terrain along a bit more, however I really must get back to homework after spending too much time on this XD
Looks like a nice, "clean" terrain, like something you'd see in the Terran Campaign. I'm not that experienced at doing RTS perspective terrains, but I'd recommend maybe adding some more detail to the tops of the cliffs. Also, this may just be me, but I think the tree doodads look a bit odd and out of place. A good terrain all round, though.
I've not posted a WTE recently cause I'm pretty much using my terraining creativity into Star Party terrains. Tonight, I made this one... this interior. I know it totally doesn't fit the theme, but at least you know I'm doing stuff. All the practice I gathered here does help making good terrain. So... here it is. Although, I don't want to spoil all the terrain in case we use it more officially later on, but that's a good detailled corner of the room ;)
Quite nicely detailed. My main advice would be to try making the floor darker, and changing the lighting so that there is no key light, and it is quite dark, and then adding light using floodlights and omni lights. That said, it appears you are making this in the DTE, and I am not certain yet if it has tint as of now, and I am going to guess you probably can't edit the lighting (In-game at least).
That aside, there are some very nice details to this terrain. I'm liking all the little statues on the desk, and that potted plant. I think, at least, that this terrain could benefit from having some sort of carpet, but unfortunately, so far as I know, there aren't really any carpet models in the game by default.
One last thing which I find a bit off are the neon signs on the wall. They just look out of place without any kind of backboard thingy. Perhaps if you used a crate doodad stuck into the wall, and then put the signs on the crate? That could work.

Weekly Terraining Exercise #176
Hey hey folks!

Both are units. "Miner (Male)" and "Bulldozer".

Oh well. We can't let terraining get in the way of our lives, no matter how much we do love it.

That terrain eh... Nice job.
