While we've tried several LotV tilesets, there is one tileset left that has a specific motif behind it we haven't yet played around with. As such, this week's WTE theme will be in the light of that tileset: "The Void". As a terrain that is supposed to literally be a different dimension, this is your playing ground for weird, quirky and completely outlandish concepts. Curious to see what people will conjure up with this one. Once we finish it up next week, we'll add the LotV tilesets to our regular repertoire and go back to normal themes.
You can find an album with all tilesets here, courtesy of greythepirate who put it up in the general forums.
That's an interesting take, it feels a lot like the earth vendor zone from the homestead in Divinity: Original Sin. Sadly I can't find any screenshots of that, but it's an interesting take. I'd love to see some more cinematic shots though; third person like views or camera positioning showing off, for example, that temple. Right now it's just shots showing the entire thing top down.
Whilte taking screenshots you can always set your graphics to higher, it doesn't matter if it lags when doing print screens, execpt if your computer cannot handle higher graphs. ;)
Otherwise, I like it. Might need a bit more of details, but the atmosphere is there, a piece of rocks with trees in the empty space... with a mindset of "what the ..... it does there" Very cool.
Here is a closer view of the temple, as requested... (Regarding the low quality, my computer does not support such graphics, my game crashes if so...). By the way, what are we doing next?
The biggest thing I learned while making this: using purely The Void assets, it's really hard to make things look good without becoming overly cluttered.
The terrain textures are all the same shade of grey, so you lose focus and everything blurs together.
Alex, those pictures are a lot better. Just keep in mind that great screenshots are better than more screenshots, angle is important for these kinds of exercises. Overall I like the concept, though the low graphics are indeed a shame. I'd say you could maybe put some more variation in the foresty areas (which are mostly just trees clumped up), and maybe do some texture play with the dirt zones in front of the temples to spice them up a little. Overall it's a promising terrain, though.
I'm not sure yet what exercise I'll put up for next week, will decide on monday.
I guess you could say the tilesets lacks 42 shades for it to be sexy. You did a great job on that temple, though I can very much see what you're on about.
Dine in the TAC team posted a picture that was looking quite nice... and said if he was good in terraining he would do it... I did it. Here is the result.
I thought I was looking at an old-school rock album cover there for a second. Nice job, even the weird, abstract and unplayable can make for great terrains, as you've again demonstrated.
Maybe I should host another one of those WTE's where you can only use doodads, like back in the old days?
Haha, there are so many doodads that can mimic ground pathing that it is almost easy to do it, even with new tilesets. If you think about it, the one i just did would have fit in the perpective wte and the one with only doodads. I don't see why we would not do another one of those... we've done so many of "must have this doodad at that minimum scale".
Maybe.... one about like weird gravity? Think of Halo with that huge circle so everything is slightily turning or a room where all walls are like the ground so it looks really weird... idk.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #227
Hello hey people!

As always, good luck & have fun!

Thank you for the comments and advice, I only started terraining 2 weeks ago...

A lot better than what I could do after 2 weeks :)

very cool.. I would not have thought of creating a terrain purely out of doodads... I like it.
