Some advice on how you can make terrain look a bit nicer is to have dirt/sand between grassy and paved areas. It doesn't have to be much but you can use it as a terrain transition kind of. Like you have a whole area with bricks/pavement and then a small amount of dirt/sand mixing into the grass as if the grass hasnt overgrown the worn-out bricks/pavement yet.
And yea I didn't mean to say your map is shit, I was referring to my own shitty maps I made a loong time ago :p. You've been improving it nicely:)
Ok, I cut back of the Foliage a little and added a few more doodads. These are a few game-view screenshots minus the actual match. I actually like the minimap colors :) Stil haven't named it yet. Also, I opted for Xel'Naga doodads over Zhakul Das. I hope this still looks pretty good though.
For now, I'll actually use that name. Maybe if I revist it again I'll call it something I come up with. For now, I just want to get it up and have my friends look it over.
I don't play much melee either... actually I don't play any melee, haven't in... months. And I have to say that I am somewhat impressed. Some of the texture blends are really good, I especially like the one in the mid north section... from grass to rocky to flagstone textures. It caught my eye right away when I saw the thumbnail more than any other of your screens.
Typhoon of War sounds cool, but your minimap reminds me of a weapon... a 4-point Shuriken! ;)
I feel the texture blends in the center of the map are a little too quick, you can barely notice a blend, almost look like lines.
from what i can see, it will be bad for zerg players ( just 1 easy to defend expansion) Zerg needs more.
Then the other issue i see is the rock blocks, For e.g top left rock compared to no rock at top right . Thats imbalance because it causes a position favor , such as players starting off in Start location 1 and 4.
Looks really neat :) If you're on EU and publish it, i can try and test it sometime!

The rocks don't cause imbalance, the map is symmetrical in a clockwise direction and only block one path to your natural. If youre opponent spawns in that direction, the rocks are the shortest attack route. If the opponent spawns in the other close position where his rocks block you, same thing. Either way, as long as you're not cross, closest route is through the rocks so theyre obviously gonna be guarded.
But yea, i recommend putting up rocks in the other direction as well.

Also, map makers aren't really gamers themselves, so yeah, nobody here seems to understand how to balance them.
Eternal Wraith made it to the third place match in my tournament, some other mapster people dropped out during the ro16 and ro8, believe me, there are melee players here :p

Since when was "lost temple" in SC1 ever balanced by position..... it wasnt.... you randomed your position and you did the best with what you were given.
I dont really buy into the whole "symetrical/ all the bases need to be exactly the same" theory.

I play on the NA servers... I would give you the map to test but idk how. Also, I'll have it up and playable in a while. I need to test/edit some things first :) I am glad the terrain looks better now from what you guys are saying. I could try to add 2 more rocks but I'm not sure where they would go. I thought it looked pretty good at the time. I was more interested in getting the bases to have the same room for buildings and the same amount of strategic locations to defend. I may bump the mineral value up to 1800 from 1400 because of the lack of expos for all players.
My ranks are mostly silver league but I can beat gold and up in team games. All I really need is to start playing 1v1. My not-amazing melee playing skills make it a very good idea to use that map analyzer :) Do you download it to use?
IT IS DONE :):):):) YES SO HAPPY!!!! Anyway, PM me if you want to try it. I play on the NA servers, so teach me how to give the map to a different one if needed.
Hey I got an idea for a map (custom) and I was gonna get someone to do the terrain but it looks nice for my map but with some editing it would work for me may I have it I will post your name in the game

You should totally use the SC2 Map Analyzer for help when balancing your map. I've used it on my melee maps in the past and it's great.
