So, I decided to try and make my own terrain textures, I got a texture imported into the map editor and it shows up fine there. But when I test the map, all textures turn out white in the game. Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong?
never mind how ugly this texture looks, it's only for testing...
can't find the textures - they should be in the Import Manager right?
Another thing that might be a problem is that the normal map is equal to the texure map. Incase you don't know what to do there, just put an empty white texture in the normal map; that worked fine for me

thanks...I'll try out that last tip. And I'll see if I can put it in the import manager, hadn't really tried that :S
I got it to work, turned out I had to indeed put the texture in the import manager, also inside the texture properties I had to remove the paths (assets/textures) and only put in the name of the texture.
Thanks a lot for all the help, it's really appreciated.
now on to making some good textures and work on a real map...gogo me!
Well, I managed to figure out a short while ago, but it's great that we now have a tutorial for this kind of thing. I had to figure this out sans tutorials, and that wasn't fun.
To generate normal maps you need two handy Photoshop utilities:
NVIDIA Texture Tools to convert images to normal maps (it shows up as a Filter once installed).
Otixa's SC2 Normal Map Converter to make those normal maps work with SC2. (It's a Photoshop Action - do a bit of Googling if you can't figure out how it works)
Most textures don't look all that good when converted directly to normal maps, but with some experimentation you can make most things look pretty passable in-game.

it's puzzling me... thanks for any help :)
Could you attach (click the attach link at the top right of the post, you can attach image too) the test map so we can check it out ? :)
ah ofc, here it is..
could I maybe have placed the textures in a wrong directory?

So... How do you make textures for the game in the first place? ...
If you don't mind me hijacking this thread.
with photoshop and the .dds plugin, you can find it here: http://developer.download.nvidia.com/tools/texturetools/Photoshop_Plugins_7.83.0629.1500.exe
After my troubles with getting textures into the editor, I decided to write a tutorial, If anyone's interested, you can read it here: http://praten.over.plaatj.es/2010/05/14/how-to-import-custom-textures-into-starcraft-2-editor/
or if you don't want to leave this place (perfectly understandable), I also posted it in the tutorials forum: http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/1755-textures-import-your-own-textures/

On a sidenote, I just uploaded my first in a series of themed tilesets here: http://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/tileset-stone/
Looking for input :)
By popular demand I put up a 2nd tileset, this one is nature themed and can be downloaded from the same page as my first tileset: http://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/tileset-stone/
the popular demand part is a bit exaggerated, I got zero response on the first set. Still looking for input (or requests) tho

But if your normal map is just a white picture, it will not work!
The normal map part is really hard to figure out, I'm still on that part myself. But if you don't do that part, your tileset is useless!!!
