Looks like water. You can see the refraction and specular highlights.
And a bit more on topic: I like where the terrain's going, but I have to offer the same advice I give to everybody: Use some texture variation to blend the ground into your rocks and cliffs a bit. It makes them look like they belong, rather than just sitting there.
It's still a bit vague I feel, too. Your water simply has no colour. When it's not moving, as on the screenshots, it appears to just be dark ground. It needs some body - I think you use the alpha setting for this.
Abruption is a problem I've had multiple times when terraining, but nevertheless also one I often fix during the latest stages of the map where I polish and clean everything up. Texture play can also work wonders here.
Does this look any better? Both the water, and the oasis itself. I played with the alpha settings, but it was hard to add any real colour to the water without it looking strange due to the low depth. I tried in the other screenshot, but I think it makes the ground/water transition look even worse. Maybe if I play with height more... hmmmmmm...
Tarsonis suits much better than Xil. You seem to be handling open spaces much better. I would suggest subtly fiddling a bit more with the ground texture
This. The only problem with the Tarsonis rocks is that the whole thing looks a bit 'sepia' right now. You do need one or two doodads in there ocassionaly that aren't beige/brown/yellow. You could possibly achieve this effect through playing with the textures, though looking through the doodad pallet should also give you some options, I reckon.
Also Alevice, what's up with that scary spider staring at me? >.>
I'll get to work on the texturing to see if I can improve it in that fashion. I have some more doodads I can add now, and I'll check out the palette to see if i can't spice it up a bit more. Does the texture of the oasis look better now, or should I do a complete overhaul? I wanted to make sure it looked somewhat distinct from the rest map
I'm going to insert a "looks decent but" here. As a whole I like it, but it feels a tiny bit off. An oasis in the desert should be surrounded with trees and look really fertile overall. This doesn't look bad, but it looks like someone put water on desert land. Isn't there a more fertile texture you can use? The area should be green and flourishing.
It still feels odd. The fog helps, but now it looks like a pool of very hot water in the middle of the desert. Don't you have room for one more texture? I'd haul in Bel'shir Brush and fill the entire area with that.
You could try doing a lot of mixing to at least keep the ground interesting, but I'm not sure if it'd amount to something.
Hmmm.
P.S. I don't mind the spiders so much guys, I was just wondering about Alevice's scary one =P
I think this project is officially dead unless I find away to save that map. Thanks for all the help of everyone who posted here, especially you, Mozared.
I'll probably have another thread up soon with something else.

Is that water or just darkened ground?
Hint: change the colour!

Does this look any better? I'm having trouble making it look less abrupt.

That screenshot doesn't really show enough to make a call. Need a wider view to see how it affects the overall image.

I'm liking your terrain more every time I see it - good job! Especially the picture with the Tauren marine has had some nice improvement.
Try perhaps using some different textures for your oasis? Water seems decent this way, but the texture is a bit hmm-ish.

Thanks! That means a lot.
Anyway, I am currently playing around with the rock textures. This is Xil. Not sure how it looks, tbh :/
I may be wrong, but I'm liking "Tarsonis" atm.

Fertile textures are in short supply I'm afraid. I wish there was a grass doodad...
Anyway, I tried to make it look a little better.

Map is corrupted. :(
Ran repair tool to no avail. Going to make a thread in General I think.
Well.
