For those of you who have maps where large unit counts are possible, you've probably come across the issue where units begin to get created without weapons, or lacking movement, eventually to a situation where units spawn without actors. Most of the time this is accompanied by the minimap 'spazzing' out, with each unit flickering on the minimap.
My question is what is the actual limit to the number of units possible on a map? Are all units equal - is it possible for 1000 units of one type to exist without issue, while 500 units of another type would cause the limit to be reached (i.e. more actor data, more memory usage)??
For one of my maps I've basically had to strip the terrain of doodads and implement different economic systems to prevent the unit limit from being reached.
The question wasn't "Why was a limit set?" The question was "what is the actual limit to the number of units possible on a map?"
The answer is that the limit is somewhere around 1800 units.
We have better computers now that can handle this stuff. Anyone know how to increase that arbitrary value? Hopefully somewhere in the editor and just nobody knows about it. I know that SC2 pre 2011 it was possible to make a basically unlimited number of units, but now it is somewhere under around 2000.

Maps tend to lag to the extent of being unplayable past 3k units. Mostly it has to do with the number of polygons per actor and the render priority.

I also want to know about Unit limit hard cap (SC2 engine's maximum limit?) I am glad I found your post. I also found https://writinguniverse.com/free-essay-examples/entertainment/ website where I can read essay samples for free.
