You might want to try creating an image on the screen. I think this can be found under the Dialog category. If you create a black box, maybe you can fit it over the minimap. Who knows.
People do, however, have different sizes for their UI.
I'm running into a similar problem where I'd like to hide the minimap.
There is also a .tga called minimap or something. I'll bet if you found a way to change that you'd be golden.
I don't think Show/Hide UI Frame works for just the minimap.
Unless there is a UI Frame type that I don't know about, or a way to get the minimap as a UI frame type.
Also, when you remove the entire game UI - like OP said, you lose ability hotkeys and the wireframe for selected units, etc etc.
Theoretically I guess you could take out the entire game UI, and then put in some dialog modals at the bottom that acted as the wireframe for units selected and their abilities.
That said, it would be so much work your fingers would be bleeding by the end of it.
This will allow you to hide whichever part of the UI you'd like.
Alternatively, Hide the entire game UI then just show the parts you want, like the menu bar, which is what I do for most my maps.
I've been trying this, but it doesn't work fine, just like Gamethreat said. I cant get the minimap in a UI frame tipe.
My problem was aplyed for a Maze tipe map, where i want to avoid players click the center of the minimap for going there.
I found a tini solution for ... some like don't show anything in the minimap.
Go (in the data editor) to "UI data of the party" then "Default adjust of the UI for SC2" and then in the right panel to "minimap+"
You have to put a high atribute number in the first number field you get above colors selection. I have something like 1000.
Escuse me, but i'm working with the spanish editor and i can't explain it better :S
Wow I didn't realize there wasn't a mini-map specific area. At least it's not overtly called so.
However I still think you can remove the entire thing, and then use triggers to show everything you do need. A bit backwards but I'm pretty sure this can be done. Just hide UI, and then right after that action, in the same trigger, just put show UI for everything else that's not there.
I don't know if maybe the mini-map is 'connected' to the UI element that involves the wireframes though.. however I doubt this as I've seen maps that had the mini-map singled out. I'm pretty sure this can be done. I'll check later
While the [UI - Show/Hide UI Frame] action for hiding the minimap only (as the OP needs) seems to work fine, it unfortunately doesn't work the other way around, where i'm trying to hide everything and show ONLY the minimap.
After hiding the Game UI, setting [UI - Show Minimap Panel for (All players)] doesn't work, while [UI - Show Menu Bar for (All players)] DOES work (show resource panel works as well). My Timers also no longer show up when they are supposed to. Very frustrating.
I couldn't find another way to hide the other UI elements at the bottom of the screen individually. The presets in [UI - Show/Hide UI Frame] are mostly for story mode... Does anyone have a way around this?
Another interesting thing is if you use [UI - Show game UI for (All players)], it shows ALL possible ui elements, breaking the game. I hope it isn't working as intended and they might fix it sometime...
Since release the "Show/Hide UI Frame" action also contains the minimap panel. this effectively hides the minimap and it's buttons.
you'll see a black space at the location where the minimap itself was, and the buttons also are removed.

ok I'm half-asleep.

Hi. I'm working in a maze-based map. In order to improve gameplay mechanic, it would be interesting to hide the minimap in some way.
I have tried removing the entire UI, but i need the other panels for using abilities, see the unit levels, skills and so.
Any idea?
I think that blackening or puting an imagen in the square of the minimap will be the solution, but i dont know how to do that.

Edit: If it helps...
Dialog - Display Screen Image(1, Assets\Textures\black.dds, Normal, 300, 280, Bottom Left, 32, 24)
covered the minimap for me pretty good. Not sure if it will work for every player though. Probably effected by screen resolution.
@lCeRl:
Use UI - Show/Hide UI Frame.
This will allow you to hide whichever part of the UI you'd like.

Ok. Please send me those maps.
I have been looking for these UI trigger options, but i still dont see anything.

You can replace the Minimap.tga with a black image and it will effectively not be there.
As for only showing the minimap, I believe the only way to do that is through .xml editing.
Since release the "Show/Hide UI Frame" action also contains the minimap panel. this effectively hides the minimap and it's buttons.
