Here's an example. I also notice in the Doodad placement, "Map Template". Says to replace "maptemplate.dds", and looked under "textures" and a few other directories. I see "maptemplate.m3", but not "maptemplate.dds". Where could it be?
Woah Woah Woah you can in fact do something of the sort. Take any decal and use TEXTURE SELECT BY ID to overwrite the decal with your image, and then scale to your hearts desire. Voila done, though idk howit would work with different level terrain.
Folks, looks like I got this well-practiced. I actually took a plane from Blender and just applied a Google Earth screenshot to it. Upon import, I duplicated the "Map Template" as I mentioned earlier and assigned it to the Google Earth screenshot. Only a little configuration was needed.
@Vicboy: Go That is correct. And I should also mention it's only good to cover large flat areas. You'll still have to do work with the terrain height. You could try using Photoshop, whatever's comfy for you.
Wait, let me get this straight. That's not photoshop? Someone actually used a Google Maps image as a terrain for the game?
I wondered that as well, the Eiffel tower appears higher than the hatchery as if it is all 3D.
It's good filling in empty space and with a picutre like that ones, it can look very rich, not to say the video memory it saves by using a flat plane with a picture than 1000 doodads.
However, if you will play on that surface, firstly it won't look good when you step on flat trees, secondly the lighting of the picture changes based on the angle from which you
re viewing. say if you are 1st or 3rd person camera, it will shine as a texture plate, rather than blending in with the terrain But for air views, if you will use air view only, it's good

@RanchBurner: Go I think you need to explain your problem a little better.
I'll try being more straight. How was a Google Image like this imported into the map editor?
Converted to dds then imported and moved to assets/textures . To move it you need to right click in the imported object.
I like the picture.
OK then what do I do in the Data Editor? Isn't it with the Map Template prop found under Assets/Doodads?

Glad you like it. :)
@RanchBurner: Go
No it will be located under assets/textures where you moved it. I don't recommend giving it the same name as something else.

You mean the image I just imported? Because I thought to cover the whole terrain with that image. I'm using my own example image from Google Earth.
@RanchBurner: Go And now it is a good explanation of what you want to do. No, you can't simply put an image over the terrain.
Then I guess this concludes my curiosity.

@JacktheArcher: Go Really? I'll try again soon, but I'm not worried about the terrain height this time. I'll do that part manually. :)
Tried to follow along closely, but I get this error when modifying the Actors: No mapping for slot main.diffuse.

Check doctor super evils assets in the data assets section.

Wow my first citation.

Actually, I just figured out my own way to do all this. But thanks gentlemen. :)

Oh cool, when will you release it?
