I have a series of towers based on the Missile Turret, and ever since the patch from a few weeks ago I have had a circular shadow around one of my towers.
In the image below, the top one has a circle and the natural shadow, the rest of the towers just have the natural shadow. This appears in the editor and when I build the structure in game. The other towers are all copies of the small one at the top, and as far as i can tell they're all the same, just a little bigger.
Anyone have a clue what could cause this round shadow?
lol. that's a bit odd... looks like a bunker shaped shadow to me... which makes me think of two possibilities.
1. you made a cloned bunker unit, and didnt attach an actor to it, thereby leaving it invisible, and forgetting to delete it off the map, and it somehow now shows up?
or...
2. i have no clue if theres a way to change/edit a units shadow to one of your choosing, but if there is, then perhaps the mini turret unit has two shadows attached to it? bunker/turret?
actually... a third thing it could be is just the terrain texture in that area, it's bumpiness or w/e... try smoothing it out?
ah! I thought of another possibility. Maybe it has something to do with the footprint of the unit. Changed that at all?
There's 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, etc, but some of them are different (not sure exactly how they differ) but some are more like 1x1 contour, 1x1 creep, 1x1 "regular" and on and on... could be that you're using a new footprint (for the smaller placement turrets) as a 1x1 contour...
just to sum up.. say the regular turret uses 2x2, and having a smaller turret you wanted to reduce the footprint to 1x1 but chose the contour version or w/e which might have that effect? idk. :P gl :P
edit: just to make a lil more sense lol... im not sure at all, and I could be really wrong, but i think the contour, (or other variations of footprint sizes) have certain effects, and perhaps you chose one that changes the terrain around it.

I copied the unit from a Missile Turret :(
It always appears around the unit, no matter where it is. The terrain in the map is still completely flat.
Also I noticed that when I have the lighting set low, the natural shadows go away, but the shadow circle does not change at all based on lighting.

Just an idea but it could be a Splat Actor attached to the unit. The splat is the burn type effect under terran structures.

If the top turret was made smaller than the original, it's probably the splat actor.

Bingo, it was the splat actor. I had a splat actor copied from two months ago, and something in the patch made it appear for the tower.
I deleted the splat actor and everything is great :)
