sorry to do work for you but i got bored and decided to show you what i mean. I ran into a problem where when casting the DS and the kill command the DS animation would stop so i gave the dummy a suicide behavior that cast kill after the DS animation finished.
I work on abilities at the moment and messed around with them since some days... maybe i'm able to help you. I have recreated darkswarm, but without any visible range or areas. I still have some problems with the use of actors, but maybe you can solve this.
Until jet my dark swarm costs 1 energy (for testing) can be used in a range of 8 where it creats an area with a range of 4 that prevents any dealt damage by attacks. All units within the range are affected, even enemies. I'm not sure about the duration.
But i'm not using any dummy-unit. Do you use it to handle the duration? I think it's able without a dummy because the guardianshield doesn't uses one too.
I will continue testing around and if i got something thats to be worth of i will show you. I think i don't really get how it's should work finaly...
100 Energy Affecting (own/air/ground/enemy?) units in an area of (?) and removing any rangedamage from them - is this right?
Edit: @ Dacablo
Well. This works great.
2. Edit: Here is what i got hope you like this version also.
And... there is an issue with the sight... zoom in a little bit and you can see everything. GL HF
Thx =) It's only the animation of an unused ability of the infestor. But i think it fits great to dark swarm.... maybe the wrong colour but Zerg became more greenish... look at the queen... or banelings... well and if i have a choice i will allways play green zerg. =D
I love that animation, too! I took Docablo's version, modified it to have a splat (which makes me happy to say, there's no splat centering around Kheldrun! ^_^), and I took the Disease Cloud model and placed there, but there is one problem: the Disease cloud is REALLY small. I'd like it to fit the radius I set it to (which is 3) like in Demonette's map. This is really the last thing that needs to be done before Dark Swarm is completely finished. So... how do I make it expand to fit the radius of the splat?
Edit: I think I figured it out! I just needed to edit the scale on the model. :) All right, it's almost ready.
Thanks for all your help. You two will be in the credits for this. :)
There is a problem with your method. If a unit is in darkswarm, it gets the behavior as "buff" that last for x seconds. The problem, if the unit move outside the darkswarm, it still has that "buff" and is still invulnerable.
Solution : Make the buff last for a very short period of time and make dark swarm recast that buff a lot.
Err... that doesn't happen for me. Did you check the latest version of my map under my maps or the Show Room?
Also, how far did you walk out? The smoke doesn't cover the area of the splat at all times, but if you move far enough (which isn't much), the buff goes away. I just tested it by looking at the buff icon, and then casting Dark Swarm, walking out of it, and attacking the Marines/Marauders in the lower right. Kheldrun took damage from the ranged attacks.
On my map you say? Hmmm this is wierd i will going to test what's going wrong with them...
Edit: Okay i got it. It was an early version of the map and i chanced it a little bit. But i found out that if the spell was casted directly on a unit it will wander with it... i going to fix this and upload it again.
2. Edit:
This is the new version that shouldn't have any issue with the range or with attaching an aura to one of your units.
There are also some zerglings you can play around with because like DarkSwarm in SC:BW don't modifices melee attacks.
waaaa... so confusing.

In demonette's map:
Had all my hydras attack another hydra under swarm. Moved the hydra really far and it was still invulnerable for about 5-6 secs.
Oh, I see. Not my map, eh?
