doesn't appear to be possible without modifying/MPQ importing the SC2Layout files from Core.SC2Mod. It's a shame, too, because I thought for all this time that we'd be able to. Maybe Blizzard in the future will make the minimap a separate layout from the command console and add functionality to move it where we want it.
I was literally JUST going to post this. Crazy coincidence.
But yes, a real shame. You would think that you could draw a box on the UI and place the Minimap in there. But it seems to be completely attached to the lower UI.
yea im gonna try editing the text files and seeing if I can do it that way, if I can I might write a guide or something
The problem is its attached to the command console, so if you use Disable Game UI it will also disable the minimap, no matter where it is. So I don't know if there's even a way to make it recognize a completely new base Layout.
Currently there is no way to change the minimap position short of editing some files. That video Noroo posted, and many other examples like it are just dialog images of a static image of the entire minimap that has a dynamically changing dot or arrow updating based on the unit position and the size of the image.

that will work =) although thinking about it Final Fantasy 13 did not have a minimap. i may make one for my map though.

Bumping this, does anyone have any idea how to do this?

I don't know, but this guy probably does since his mini map is moved:
~ Where's the minimap?
~ I threw it in the lake.
~ ARE you CRAZY?

So technically it's possible by just replacing the entire UI?
