I tried to copy a Ghost and call him a Scientist, but not only did the actor vanish, but in the Unit Layer type selector, he is still called Ghost Copy. What is going on?
Also, is there any way to make a doodad selectable like a unit, and have a command card, abilities, etc?
there are a ton more units / doodads that will be added with the full release. you can look through all the model fiels (though it errors as bliz hasnt given us acces to them) but there are plenty of khoran civilian models coming at us i believe. it kinda sucks to have to wait to see what well get....
I don't see anywhere to add an actor to a unit.
Also, what happened to the civilian, and a nice variety of doodads for that matter... the selection seems a bit thin...
You have to go to actors.
Well how actors work is, they are models that responds to events. When you make an actor, and go to events. You make a event called "Unit Created" and then the term "Create" (creating the actor) is usually added. Then your actor is created when your unit is.
^Also when you create actors make sure you select the correct time. Actor should be "Unit".
Civilian wasn't doodad. It was an unit. Variety of used and unused will be released with the full version of Starcraft 2. I guess Blizzard didn't want to spoil the plot by giving them us early.

Awesome, I see... I just wish there was a way to copy an actor without copying the models and sounds within. Also, is there a way to make a doodad that has the model of a unit?

You CAN copy an actor without copying any models or sounds, and it will still work just fine. The actor REFERENCES models and sounds that need to be used. It is perfectly allowable for two different actors to contain a reference to the same model/sound, in fact many actors do this by default.
As for a doodad that looks like a unit, this is very easy to do. You can give them any model you want.
After you make a copy, you will notice a lot of the references in your actor (and maybe other places) refer to something by the same name but (Unknown) - just set these to the sounds, models, etc. that you need. You don't need to duplicate anything but the unit and the unit's actor.

Unit layer does not update until you close and open your map. Yeah annoying bug, been discussed few times.
Doodad is just an actor. Just create a unit, with a doodad model

Thanks, I think I understand now :)
