To start, my comp is nothing special but can usually handle high game graphics without fail. However, in this particular map im doing there is alot of lava and the lava is giving me terrible frame drops. At a region with no lava my fps is about 32 or so, over the lava it is around 17.
If it is this bad for me I dont want to imagine what it will look like for some of my friends!
From some of my research many people have said that shaders in particular cause a significant decrease in fps. Can the shaders be changed for the lava alone? If not, is there any other way to change the lava so the fps drops will not be as bad?
Thanks in advance!
In the terrain window, choose terrain>water. Click on add water then choose the lava type you used. Click on modify water, there are a lot of options you can lower to increase your fps. These parameters are interesting because each type of water can get their own modification, even "height". That's totally independant from global lighting parameters.
One more thing, there's a slight little difference of performance between "editor" and "in-game". Editor is using more ressource, that's what i noticed while i'm doing my cinematics.
I dunno' if this is for a cinematic map or not, but i've heard of people making their map run at slower speeds (using triggers) so everything acts in slo-mo. When they piece it together and edit the "film", they speed everything back up to the mimic the average 30FPS of most video recordings, giving the appearance that their computer was never lagging at all during the recording.
