Im curious to see someone give feedback about this because Im wondering how Splash damage works and how it can be applied to a weapon or as an ability(Hail of Lead). I gave a marine unit the Hail of lead ability that Tychus mini-gun hero has but when I test it theres no sign that any splash damage occurs, maybe an answer to your question will shead light on the splash damage mechanics.
?????? there should be no way the effect of a weapon and the behavior of a unit interact like that.
the only thing I could think of is that you changed the weapon of the unit in the veterncy behavior (did you make the new levels before you gave the unit the weapon with splash?
the splash damage should be found under the weapons effects. check there first. but the 2 should not interact.
Doesn't seem the weapon is modified at all. Starting at level 1, he just doesn't have splash damage. It was working before I added the veterancy.
EDIT: Well... removed the behavior, it doesn't seem related to the splash damage. But now I gotta find out why the splash damage isn't working anymore.
I managed to get Hail of Lead working too, but the icon is grey in colour, not the usual green of passives and abilities. The "Tint By Race" box is checked, and I am using the Terran race, so why is the icon not coloured in?
It's set as Command Type: "Passive", Requirements: "(None)", and Behavior: "Tychus Commando - Hail of Lead Dummy".
Are firebats even giving splash damage when you play them in the campaign? I'm not so sure actually.
Yes they do splash damage, and there's a story upgrade that increases their area-of-effect radius even more. What does this have to do with my question though.

The wierd thing is that if I insert the version of Tychus that starts with the Hail of Lead ability into the map, HIS icon will be colourized, while my version of Tychus on the same map won't be coloured. The name and descriptions of the ability are identical.

I never noticed their splash, figured it was one of the many bugs.
And it bears to your question that, if they in fact had been bugged, it'd be an explanation for the nonfunctioning of your firebats. In which case I'd have suggested a look at banelings etc. but since it's not that case

No splash damage. When I tried to give the Firebat the veterancy behavior, it all seems to work, but he lost his splash damage.

check the weapon itself.
make sure it's pointed to the right effect for the area damage.
then check the area dmg effect and make sure it's configured correctly.
there are a lot of places a bad link can mess you up. if you edited anything about the effects you may have unintentionally hit something.

Ya, checked the weapon as soon as I noticed it wasn't the behavior. Got it working. ^.^

I have the feeling the solution is something simple, but the greyed out icon is bugging me to hell.
