i just started map editing about 30 minutes ago, this seems like the place to ask,
im having similar issues as Metrael had in this thread before he was enlightened, i imported an ogg file as you can see from the window at the right, i try to play it using a play sound trigger, but it does appear on the Sound Link list
just wondering how I would find that file Promotory.OGG
You need to go into the Data Editor, duplicate a sound from the list there then go to the Sound Assets field, remove anything there and add your sound file. Then you can go back and find the Sound Link when doing the trigger.
I ran into the 'unable to move archive' problem too. The way I found to get around it was to save the map as a different name. So I try to do all my .wav/.ogg importing and data editing in one shot so I don't end up with a billion maps or just go and delete those old maps.
I had the same problems when I tried to import DotA sounds into my new marine sniper game - to explain in a decent level of detail, this is what I did and it worked...
1) Imported all of the DotA sounds I needed (firstblood.wav, killing_spree.wav, etc..)
2) Saved the game and (when in import window) font color of each imported file changes from green to black
3) Right click on one of the files and select "Rename" [a couple of screwy things happen when I did this (below)]
-Renamed file called "firstblood.wav" to "firstblood1.wav" and (for some reason) was left with both files and not a replacement
-Save game and enter sounds window and select the sound item you want to link the actual sound to
-I linked the sound called "firstblood1.wav" and not the original "firstblood.wav" and saved immediately after
If this worked - the game will SAVE and the the imported sound is now linked and should work
If this did not work (sometimes happens) the game will not save .. exit out and reload - you saved right before the last step
THE REASON WHY IT SHOULD WORK: is because you're giving it a different filename than its' originating directory and thus will not be used in two places at once..
NOTE - be advised that:
When you rename the sound file in the SC2 import window - 1 of 2 things will happen
1) The sound is truly renamed and you should have no problems with this
2) The sound that you tried to rename still remains to keep the original file name and, for some reason, a different file name obtains the "Rename" title that you tried to set up ... in this case, it is still ok and will still work.. but the file labeled "firstblood1.wav" may actually be the filename for the sound that's actually "GODLIKE.wav"
I hope this wasn't too confusing, but since no one seemed to have a solid answer, I ended up burning a lot of time trying to figure it out.. some of the previous stated suggestions led me to that dreadful process, but hey, at least I got my sounds working..

lame would never save filesize over vorbis.
ogg is always smaller than mp3 in comparable bitrates.
use a conversion tool to change your sounds to q.-1 for smallest size and determine if the loss of quality is acceptable
q.4 is the highest i've had to use.
but then I got the error everytime I try to save the map: "Unable to move existing archive (It is already being used by another process)" C:\Users\Metrael\Documents\Starcraft II Beta\Maps\testMap.SC2map
Anyone know what is it?
I had the same problem today, the bug happens when you preview the sound file in the data editor.
So dont press the play buttons in the data editor when linking your sound file and it will work.

still havent made any progress with this, and im sure its a simple fix that im not seeing,
can anyone help?

G'day guys
I ran into the 'unable to move archive' problem too. The way I found to get around it was to save the map as a different name. So I try to do all my .wav/.ogg importing and data editing in one shot so I don't end up with a billion maps or just go and delete those old maps.
Hope this helps
...If anyone still cares, I've figured it out because I had the same problem..

Worked for me, thanks !
I would denfinantly convert to mp3 and import to save map size. It works very well...
lame would never save filesize over vorbis. ogg is always smaller than mp3 in comparable bitrates.

Wow a rare double necro. Better lock this ancient thread

@Metrael: Go
You need it to be in an OGG file, I just don't know why - even after I added it to a file, why it won't work in-game.
I had the same problem today, the bug happens when you preview the sound file in the data editor. So dont press the play buttons in the data editor when linking your sound file and it will work.
