Hey hipnos, as programmer has said, the only way to do this, is to remove the 3d from each unit it, to do this:
Open the data editor:
Go to the Models (from dropdown box)
Type in the search box Portraits
Now you will see a folder, with each race, and every unit , click the unit you want to remobe the 3d from,
find the field "Model" and remove it =D

Jeez man 2 people tell you how to do it and you're obviously not looking very hard if you can't find it and even after 2 people tell you the exact way to do it you complain and ask more people to tell you how to do it when everyone is just going to say the same thing, that is the way to do it, if you can't figure it out then don't bother with it until you know the data editor better.
Well some people were wrong, cuase its not in the units actor, they were telling him to look in the wrong place.
Forums are here for people to ask questions, not everyone is as good at finding things as others.

Actually it is. Removing it from the model will just make it not show anything. Changing 3D to 2D will require going into either the actor and changing it there, or changing the 3D model to the 2D one in the model tab (much like you said, but not removing it).
To wOlfLisk: Where is exactly the option in the Unit's Actor? Oo
To Molsterr: I can't remove a model, I allways must select one from my import files ><!!!! Now the model from the Portrait's model is a white semisphere and when I launch the map I see a white portrait !_!
thanks for try to help me guys !_! I only need to do this and then i will begin with the Sound !_!

Sorry, not trying to resurrect an old topic but I have the same problem as the topic creator. I can find the "Model" field but I cannot remove it. X_x
Removing the model file altogether leaves us with "nothing".
Setting the video settings is relative to the mappers in-game settings, not the map settings, so if a player has his settings on 3d the ui will portray the .m3 file there or nothing if the file is gone.
The editor requires an .m3 file and an image file, you cannot upload two image files either...
I just did hundreds of 2d portraits and would love to drive down to figure this out with some help from you kind folks :)
I created a topic in SC2 forums once about this exact issue. I hope someone from Blizz heard me. My idea for them was to create one checkbox for portrait models "always use 2d file" or something like that. But since we can't do that by ourselves I suggest you find a modeller willing to create a simple plain model where you can use your 2d images as textures. You would need to have many new models like this, one for each portrait.
Anyone knows how the hell can i force 2D portraits in a map? T_T im going crazy xDDDDD
bump? ><!!

Change all unit's 3D portrait to static portrait (in the data editor). May take a while

Can this be solved in triggers or data easier?
I know you can chnage it when you play in the menu.

That's the issue, we can't find a way for the map, not the player, to determine the portrait type.

Just one model would be enough actually since you can run the "Texture Select by id" actor message on a unit's portrait to replace its textures.
