I've recently published a custom melee map on my account - eu if it matters. Is there any way to monitor how many times my published file is played / downloaded?
You could create a trigger that reads out an integer in a Bank, adds 1 to it, and writes it back to the bank.
Then, add a Trigger with a Chat-message Event and make it read out the number from the Bank. ;)
Well I don't know anything about triggers or banks lolol. The only thing I could see was the "popularity" meter when you search for it, but that seems to reset every day or something so it doesn't really help =c
Maybe that up-and coming thing in the search options will add something.
Also, if they do ever add server banks, expect them to be WAY more picky than the current local ones. Having data sent to their servers is something they won't take lightly.
Anyways, it is possible, if you have access to your own server, to send data from a bank to the server with a program. However, that would mean that every person that plays the game would have to install this program, which unless you are SOTIS, isn't ever going to even come close to happening :)
There is another way, but it isn't accurate unless many people play you map/mod. Read each player's banks, get the largest int, add 1, and write it to all banks. This will essentially update everyone's bank with a number that is at least somewhat near the correct number. If you ever want to find out, jump in a game, and open the bank afterwards.

This does not work. Let's say we have four players. Player A and B play 5 games with eachother. Their bank ints raise to 5. Player C and D play 5 games with eachother. Their bank ints raise to 5 as well. Now all players play together. Everyone get's the int 6. This is wrong since the total amount of games played is 11.
I've actually considered a way to do this with banks before. The only way I could think of was to store a unique id for each game and count the amount of ids in the bank. When you play with someone who has an id that you don't have, you take it. However, this as well will only work if the game is somewhat popular and a lot of people play with eachother.
"we do not support bla bla bla..." doesn't mean they don't have the stat (i'm personnaly sure they have it.. dare i say it, consult it).
Off course they won't let us get that sort of information. Think of the effort/time/money it would take.. it is simply staggeringly dismiss-able a thing (that's what they do...! i call it actwithoutavision, what do you call it?).
This old fart just couldn't refrain from saying it, sorry...
It is possible to know.. someone successful should ask [old fart proceeds to laugh like there's no tomorrow ;) ]

hes asking to see how many times other people have played his map.... not himself

Yes, I just saw that the Banks are only for a specific player. Isn't there a way to modify a file on the battle.net server ? ^^

Nope, but battle-net banks are a feature we are hoping for. :D
No, you can't check. The only way to tell is by how popular it is, unfortunately.
What zelda said.

Great to be back and part of the community again!

Why not ask big brother?
