Long time reader, first time poster.
So I've been thinking of how to trigger lava to deal damage. I figured out already how to make lava rise and fall and stuff, but I cannot find how to make lava lethal. In my map, which I am working on, once lava rises, and units are in that area, they don't die.
Hey guys, I'm in desperate need of help.
I have the script copied almost exactly as above however after LavaDamage it says (unknown) and because of that the lava does not do any damage.
It is not unknown from the script i copied it from, it only does not work on my maps :S
Anyone know what i can do?
Thanx!
The Lava Damage is an effect that deal damage. You can find it in the data editor. Its just like any damage effect (weapons, spell) just that now you're applying it manually. Can use the marine weapon damage effect if you like
Have you made sure your buff does actual damage? if the amount is damage is set to 0 your units wont take damage from the buff.
Also make sure that the actually buff is there i the data editor, if not you can copy it from the data editor where the script originated from.
or open the first TTosh mission in the editor (you can find it in campaign), go to Data editor, and search for the word 'Lava' in the behaviours tab. then copy the buff called Lava Damage. Thats the way i did it ;)
the lava damage effect is part of the campaign module and unless you have that module in your map's dependencies copying the triggers from the campaign map will show that effect as an unknown. Now nothing is stopping you from making your own lava damage effect, just saying that's the result of copying that trigger to a map that doesn't have the campaign's one available.
(I happened to do the same thing early in my galaxy editor learnings and eventually figured out this is what was going on)
I have tried many different things to try and get this to work, and still can't. One problem that I find is that under Actions, the Unit Group line is not something that's built in. the only way I can get it to say that is to type it in by hand. I'm new to the whole map editor world. is there any way you could break it down further for me? Step-by-step?
I also noticed how BumpInTheNight stated how it was a campaign module thing. Is there any way of having a lava effect without having that? I'm just wanting it on one multi-player map. If I have to have the module, then how do I create one, or where do I download one?
Simply put, what I'm trying to do is create a map with a chasm down the middle splitting the two teams. This chasm is filled with lava for 30 min, that will kill ANY unit that enters or goes over the lava. This way the teams have time to build up their forces before the game really begins. I hate starting a game just to have it end after 5 min.

I'd appreciate every help. :)
Taken from Blizzard's map "Tosh01", the trigger "Lava Damage".

Thanks, I'll try it out!

A reverse way around this is use regions, every say '8.5' seconds of game time, kill all units in said region, and this is timed to the lava rising
