Seems like there is no mouse pointer tracking, so far. (Wc3 had that).
You can track center of camera and detect mouse clicks so this is useful for 3PS/FPS maps.
Can you guyz post me few Top Down (WASD is ok) maps and 3PS/FPS maps ?
I am wondering how do people handle shooting and targeting in top down, WASD mostly, maps.
Anyone have say few cons and pros of each type of view system ?
I would like to use Top Down, but seems like it lacks of shooting and targeting...
Well in my map Top Down Fighters I found that WASD movement for the system is just to laggy over bnet. Targeting is fine if you don't have very fast shooting weapons because you can't track Mouse Hover, only Mouse Clicks which is a pain in the ass.
There is mouse hover detection... FPS doesnt lagg so much.
There probbly will be but in Wc3 I seen camera can avoid going inside or trough houses/walls/ground...
Mostly, mouse hover.
But I was hoping that SC2 will have more features, not same. There are few more features, that arent that relevant for making original projects.
i beg to differ. no this isnt a stand alone game programming platform. you can look into microsoft xna game studio express or osmething like torque if youre really wanting that. otherwise, i think this has PLENTY of new features, and its not even fully released yet. when we can tap into the physics (even minorly) ande not have to build our own,...... just wait my friend. just wait... (at least thats my 2 cents)

Are you kidding me? Sc2 is loads more advanced than Wc3.
Mouse hover detection wasn't discovered in Wc3's beta, it took a while for them to figure out how to use trackables in Warcraft 3, if that's even what you're referring to. The same thing is possible in Sc2 anyway with dummy units and the Hover event (which WASN'T in Wc3 btw).
In fact, most of Wc3's features that you see now are bugs that people exploited. The Sc2 editor just hasn't been explored enough. Watch what the community will be producing in 1 years time.
EDIT: Although Sc2 is more advanced, the Galaxy Editor is so god damn clunky and Blizzard made some really bad design choices with the language as well as interface. Don't get me wrong, Sc2 has its problems but what you're saying is far not them.
FPS/3PS/sim/anything with keyboard controls that actually works on b.net.
Keyboard control were barely existent in Warcraft III !
The only thing you could catch was arrow keys - and they had SO MUCH delay on battle.net that it couldn't even be effectively used for menues.
You can trust me on that, I'm a proficient WC3 mapper.
And a FPS without mouse control (which wasn't possible in WC3)? You can do that in SC2 too. Even better. You can smooth camera movement when you only use keys. It is absolutely sweet. It just doesn't work with mouse.
Keyboard control in SC2 is rather good actually. Sure, we have some delay, but apart from that we can catch ANY key press (except of some language-specific things, maybe). That's more than I anticipated.
Ok - Mouse hover is a valid argument I guess. So trackables.
We were able to do so in WC3 but there were rather few maps which used it because it was so badly implemented. It was only really possible with JASS, there was no way to delete trackables anymore (or turn them off), you couldn't make them player specific, you couldn't move them and you could only make them change height using a workaround.
All in all it's one big mess and it doesn't even work optimally. Look at TKoK (which is using trackables for their inventory): Sure, it works. But online you sometimes have a nasty delay so that you can barely do 1 click per second. Not always, but sometimes.

Where have I said this before?
So basically, we can do or RTS or Sidescrolling games... And Wc3 had loads more choices...
If blizz wont step in and add those features, SC2 wont live as long Wc3 was/is alive.
I mean, yeah, like people iwll create DotA maps(they wont become popular as it was in wc3).
What can you do with Wc3 that you cannot do in Sc2?

Well ok, ours(mine probbly) expectations are maybe a bit over the top.
Its not game engine I know. But they could have include some popular things.
There will be expansions. And Blizz said they will update GE. And support mapping community this time. I hope.
Ditch SC2 and get your hands on the Unreal Engine instead. IMO

Yes UT engine looks very powerful. And they released free tools not so long ago if I am not wrong.
Still, I dont have enough experience in programming. Will start learning that over next few years...
And its hard to find dedicated people.
