Agreed. I can't imagine why this isn't in the editor already. I spent like an hour earlier trying to at least change the color of the sky because I assumed there was no way they would make a map editor without the ability to edit the skybox.
we can go underground, but we can't change the color of the sky
If you can go underground, why not make the "underground" texture a sky texture? Then you can go ahead and make the entire level "underground" but look like it's above ground.
How do you remove black fog of war beyond the map limit? I tried Enabling "Hide Lowest Level" setting, it changes this fog, but doesn't remove from map...

The editor needs support for easy to enable good looking skyboxes for 3rd person and FPS games.

It's called a background object.
You can set it by going to the Data Editor in the Terrain Texture Sets tab. Alternatively, you can set it via a trigger action (Set Background Model).

@MAD111CAT: Go
Go to Map > Map Options > Unexplored areas drop down box > whatever setting you want.
Just thought I'd reply in-case anyone sees this page, and wonders what the answer is.
(edit) Oh, wait. Beyond the map limit... I should learn how to read. Well if anyone wonders how to adjust it within the map limit. There ya go.
