I don't know if I'm missing something silly to make an effect use the rectangle search but I can't seem to get it working. I've entered a height and width for the rectangle but it doesn't do anything.
I know my ability is working because when I give the search area an arc and a radius it works perfectly, but when only using a rectangle nothing happens.
I've probably missed something obvious but I can't for the life of me work out what. Any help would be appreciated.
So the Splat. You are talking about an actor problem. Also the ability for searches to form quads is a comparatively new thing. Maybe some of the system default actors are not set up to tint the units?

I spent a while researching and testing rectangular searches. My recommendation is 'don't use them' unless there is an absolute reason that arcs and circles cannot be used.
Most of the usual issues with rectangles are related to the facing of the unit during the search.
- the unit faces -y, therefore your width & height of x10 & y10 (positives) are in relation to the units current facing.
- I suspect your problems are directly related to that.
Furthermore, the facing of non turnable units ie: siegetanks and colossus works very differently and generally are incompatible with rectangles without previous search effect used to established a 2nd reference point in situations where you want the unit to move in a specific direction relative to a map position.
Also, there is a persistent 'mirror' search oddity that occurs occasionally when using rectangles, as in the unit searches within the opposite direction of your rectangle. in this case: it would mirror search -10, -10
It shows a yellow rectangle when I use the ability but the units inside the rectangle don't take damage. When I use an arc search I get a yellow arc and the units inside die, as intended.

You mean a Quad type actor?

No, I mean when making an AOE ability, the search area effect which finds targets. It can search an area in a circle/arc or a rectangle.

It also does the mirror searching if using arcs rotated at an angle.

Thanks for the advice, I'll stick to arcs and circles for now.
what happens when you check DebugTrace for your rectangle search?

Attach your map and I'll take a look. Sounds like a search filter issue.
