sorry if this has been covered befor or if its in the wrong section.. i searched the wiki and couldnt find anything on this
Hey guys i was wondering if anyone knew if you can make custom animations for units. say for example i wanted a marine to shake his head or i wanted him to hold his arms to the side or i wanted him to walk instead of run. can i do this in the editor?.. my idea was to do this in 3ds max but i am wondering is it then possible to somehow import the animations back into the editor and then use them in a scene via triggers or a custom modle that constantly does the animation OR IN ANY WAY ATALL??? even if its some wierd way i can figure out how to implement it aslong as i can get the unit doing the animation! plz any help would be awesome i really need to do this in some way to make StarCrap a lot better of a show!!!
like i have seen people making custom units that hold their arms to the side but i need some animations like say i wanted to make a unit punch another unit so i would need that unit to have a punch animation that i could creat in 3ds max im just wondering mainly if its possibl to then use the animation in the editor and how would i go about doing it. or yeah the walking thing is realy important.. is ther a way to make them walk already (obviously i know you can slow the movement speed but i want them to appear like they are walking) thanks so much for ur help i am a noob at some stuff.. im good at making cutscenes and terrain and making them look action packed but this would add so much to what i could do with the show!
I'm not sure if you have solved this or not, but I'm going to post it anyway in case someone else wonders. :)
I had this problem aswell so I searched a little and found, beside from this post, this. :)
Basically you just extract the models you need using some kind of weird mpq extractor thingy (link), move all textures to the maps folder in the 3ds max directory, import the model, change the animation you want to edit or make a new one in the sequences utility, make the bones do the animation you want, like walking, export the model, import it in the editor, (I think that the mpq extractor thingy must be off if you want to use the editor, otherwise the editor won't show anything.) create a model(data type) and set it's model to the imported model and then change the actors Art - Model to the model(data type).
I have tested it with a very ugly animation of a ghost punching and it works. :)
Hope it helps. :)
There is a field used by some models to give them animations like the Civilian Female and Infested Civilian in the models data type. The field is called Animations (Required). I do not know enough about the file type used to give them additional animations but thats where you need to start looking.
