Hey. I would like to modify Leviathan (from "Hero" unit category) not sure where to begin. What I want is better control for tentacle weapon. At the moment tentacles attack when there are enemies nearby. I would like to modify this so that it works like other "normal" units.
I'd assume they are a weapon which has the attack while moving option checked. Check the unit for the weapons it has, and then go to those weapons and uncheck the allow moving option. That should make them require stopping before attacking.
I haven't tried this so it might not work, but it's my first guess on how it would be done.

The Leviathans ground itself attack is actually a very complex behavior. The weapon you see in the weapon data tab you might see is just to put visible info for the weapon in-game.

So definately this is much more about behavior than weapon. I will inspect this but seems very complex. I also inspect Spine Crawler, I think it gives easier starting point.
Yes I would compare the Spine Crawler to them Leviathan because the ground attacks are almost identical in nature except for the damage dealt and the animations. Of course, there are the things you talked about.
Try checking the Validators. For example, the Spine Crawler's Validator for its attack is that it is rooted. For the Leviathan I think it will be necessary to take a look at the Behaviors and tab and Validators tab.
