I need a structure unit which uses a turret to cast a certain Effect-Target Ability, but when ordered to do so it won't turn the turret to point at the target, thus not firing the ability at all.
Point being I need to somehow be able to give the turret this ability which doesn't seem to be possible with the actual editor, so is there any way to have something similar or a nice enough work-around? like making the turret be an actual unit?
Is there any particular reason why it has to use a turret with an Ability? You could launch the effect with a weapon just as well, or set the casting arc to 360° (currently bugged to default back to 0 if you manually type "360", copy-paste from Mothership abilities)
haha sorry guys ' it's just I want to make it as clean as possible so as to not mess with the weapons because of the attack effects I want to add later on.
Is the casting arc on the ability or turret?
In any case I'll try manually 1 more time if nothing then I'll take you up on that offer Dr, thanks.
Casting arc is on the ability (field also exists for weapons) and if set to 360° will allow the unit to cast without turning at all, as is required for structures like the Nexus and Orbital Command. The unit won't attempt to turn and thus have no visual effect unless you dummy it in. The same result can be achieved for weapons by mounting them on a Freely Rotating turret like on the Mothership.
DrSuperEvil's simulation system allows you to make part of the unit visually rotate towards the target and you should definitely use that if you care about the visuals.

Look at my turret simulation system map under my data assets.

Just simulate the dang thing, then you can put on an awesome looking turret.

Turrets just do not work for abilities, I have tried. My method allows abilities, weapons and even doodads to lock onto the target using a turret.

Ok, I'll get to work on it then, thx.
Yeah, purely depends if you like perfection or if the turret turning is a big part of the gameplaying experience.

Well, yeah, I wouldn't want the final version of the map to be all clunky and funny-looking it'd look kind of cheap and effort-less.
So do I need a whole new model for the Virophage since I want to place the simulated turret in the place of its original turret?
That'd mean 2 models right?
the seperate head of the virophage
the virophage's base (without the head)
