I came up with a pretty interesting idea. Everyone can make any unit of any kind transform into another unit of any kind. Also, for challenges, you could make the unit perform an action once they finish...maybe they create a big shockwave. :)
Ye, a basic morph ability might not be that hard, but setting everything properly and especially getting the visuals to look nice could be interesting.
Was just over at the Many bodies one mind for Weekly trigger exercise and someone asked wouldn't it go smoother if it was done in the data editor. So I ask why not have one of the weekly data exercise be about making a squad type unit. Multiple units that share a same health bar and commands and as the health bar goes down some of the units die, possibly put a commander looking unit as the head.
How about unique transportation of units? The Thor being the best example in game. Possible executions would include a Overlord which wraps additional tentacles around a Ultralisk and then picks it up, or the snow speeder from the assets which can pick up a Tank. More of a challenge would be for example a Battlecruiser which can pick up four Hellions, two Tanks or one Thor. A turretless Tank, enlarged on the x and y axis, capable of transporting Marines etc which will then show where the turret used to be, keeping their attack abilities. Things like that would be supercool, but maybe a bit to limited to be fun for everyone.
I'm not going to do individual abilities thats where I bring the challenges in, gotta leave topics broad and I can do challenges to recreate certain abilities
For future reference, for people posting ideas: the first WDE was an individual ability, with a somewhat broad term. Although it went well, there wasn't really much variety in the end. Entries like 'Create a Fire Spell' or 'Create a Cold Spell' are much more likely to get selected than a 'create a nuke that splits into 4 before impact' type entry.
Not sure if this idea is to simple, but what about something that involves Xel'Naga towers. for example instead of gaining sight from them; your units could gain an attack bonus, or your units are able to teleport from one tower to another, or it could just weaken you enemy. all that while maintaining the key characteristic that it's inactive while two enemies are next to it, or no one is next to it.
i do know it does seem to play a bit with aura's, but i have seen very little stuff with the towers. anyways just an idea.
I'd like to see a "Passives" WDE. That is, one where the goal is to create an interesting passive ability for your unit of choice (or maybe a specific unit if you want).
I'm thinking passives as in... passive upgrades kinda like in the campaign?? Not auras, but passives that if you have them, maybes changes how some of your spell(s)/attack(s) work... I dunno, to me I've got ideas for everything ;)
i've got learnable passive abilitys if you want. i got one for increasing weapon range. and i got one for giving cleave to unit that when upgrade it changes base damage(i gotta fix dmg though cos its just a fixed ammount eg:normal 15, cleave 5, cleave 10, cleave 15). and i got a passive that increases hp by 50 once learned and a further 50 and a further 50.
I would like to see if anyone was able to change sentrys attack from channeling to one off hit animation :)
Well, that sort of thing is straightforward but not very interesting. I'm talking about cool stuff like a passive that will do a short-term cloak of all nearby allies on death, or a passive that speeds up the unit a bit every time it's attacked. Y'know, like the Immortal's Hardened shield. :)
evasion and assain i guess is what you call it units have different effects behaviors and what not to evade attacks but doesn't have to be like to takes half of the damage no not at all say it activates a ability while its being attacked and when its finish it fires the damage adsorbed at nearby units can be done lol feed back umm assain like any sneak attacks im thinking assain well allow more zerg like roaches hope this gets added you can come up with more challenges
You have given me two very paticular things to do an exercise on. so everyones will be the same, it needs to be a broad topic bud. like "fire spells" then I can add in different challenges to that to be more specific but leave it up to people to come up with ideas
evasion i can see that being different but i mean im sure it can be broadened just do a spy challenge so it include basically those two and some other ones
Oh my god, my attempt with turrets all failed miserably so far xD
€ well, depends on if you mean like turrets for a td or the actual turret objects.
Thanks, I enjoy these exercises quite much and learn a great deal from them. If it happens to look good or even can help other people, even better :D.

how about this overload phoenix ability http:starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Phoenix/Development

How about recreate a functional terratron out of the various terrain building models and give it animations using movers, rotations and what not.

by passives you mean like auras? we did have one of those, if not explain passives a little further. I am running low on ideas atm :)

My suggestion for a WDE its "Multiphase Skills", as the name suggest, we will do a multiphased skill that in each phase will have diferent effects...
@Tekaichi: Go
We could make a ability that use all kind of behaviour and effect. By using chained persistant effect.
And I think we should write the protess down as example into wiki.
