What about just create the most epic spell you can think of. By spell I mean in the terms of like WoW or Phantasy Star, not any ability that can be used. Like a giant fireball or a thunderstorm. Anything someone can think of for a spell or is that too broad?
I could think of another more specific one, a Pillar of Light. In Sacred 2 there is a class that look similar to angels. They're basically paladins with great fighting combat and light spells. One of them is a radiant pillar, basically a pillar of light. In Sacred 2 they had other things that could be added on. I think a few were add more damage, pull enemies into pillar, wider damage radius, longer lasting, etc.
It'd be cool to see sacred 2 spells remade in starcraft 2.
yea I plan to do spells at some stage, but I will give them criteria just so they don't get unrealistic. I am trying to get peopel to create stuff in the data editor that can be used in maps, whilst there are unrealistic attacks there are lots of littler things we can create :)
do you have a link or any demos of these sacred 2 spells I have never heard of the game myself
It's a few but if you search Sacred 2 Seraphim or any other class in the game you can probably find some spells of their. The classes are Shadow Warrior, Dryad, High Elf, Seraphim, Inquisitor, Temple Guardian, and Dragon Mage. Sadly it didn't do so well even though it's a good game. The gameplay is great but the story and NPC are mostly parodies of other games, I think they have Diablo parodies in there.
EDIT: You can also do a BFG. That's one of Seraphim's spells, it acts like a buff and takes up a weapon slot. It's really strong and I consider it broken for being so strong. The weapon itself isn't amazing but I'm sure people could come up with something amazing.
Just want to note that for any submission for the WDE that you want to make it into an assets or wants to share the file for others feel free to create a project - assets and/or post it in the Data Assets Forum:
Good work nevj, nice too see people putting time into the SC community. Good to hear that you are aware of the child diseases. and are working on them.
How about a behavior that gives units a conic fov not just a pretty flashlight but making it so the unit can only see in the direction it is facing. I know you can do this with triggers easily but doing it this way give units the ability to see through walls which breaks my map.
Ammo system with reloading times and clips sizes and upgrades that effect reloading time, clip sizes and Ammo upgrades that add damage, splash, change impact and launch effects, range, attack speed, stun, and slow movement. I know that a huge request but if you like maybe break it down into peaces.
I wasn't planing on using it to make and fps ( I don't really play fps's except for L4D once and a while) but I think its leaves a lot for the imagination say if you taught me how to make a hero with a machine gun that had a 50 shot clip and it took 5 seconds to reload and had and upgrade that took 1 second off reload time, and he could pick up explosive rounds which gave him splash damage. I could use that knowledge to make a hero with a plasma blaster the had a 200 round clip that takes 10 seconds to reload, with an upgrade the reduces reload time by 2 seconds per level and, I can pick up ammo that makes targets move at 50% speed. I got a ton of gun ideas I just need to build set of gun/ammo/upgrade data then I can change a few values and make hundreds of variations everything from freeze rays to smart missiles.
In that case, I would not limit it to vikings (most likely you did not mean to limit the spell to one unit anyway), there are many air units, which are suitable (overlords dropping baneling bombs ftw :D)
What about a spell that brings dead enemies back to life temporarily but as your allies? That could be a big challenge.
That would require all affectable units to be properly set up, because there is no way to get access to a dead unit without increasing its death time. Also as far as I know, there is no data only way to revive a dead unit or spawn a unit depending on the type of another unit (unless you want to separate each unit type with its own validator xD)
So I doubt, this will be successful as an exercise, and it is way too specific. No room for variation at all.
I came up with a pretty interesting idea. Everyone can make any unit of any kind transform into another unit of any kind. Also, for challenges, you could make the unit perform an action once they finish...maybe they create a big shockwave. :)

Thanks programmer, will add that into the first post and see if we can get some more assets up :)

Great job so far I look forward to seeing more.

Whilst all the FPS upgrades are pretty cool ideas, it leaves very little room for immagination.
There is allready a FPS asset out there with an ammo system which you have to reload
Week 3 Exercise suggestion-
"All About Auras"
Sounds cool, is self-explanatory, and leaves a lot of room for creativity. Could add a specific requirement if you want it to be more focused :)

You have completly missed what I was getting at, what you are requesting sounds more like a tutorial rather than an exercise.
@nevjmac:
yeah your right my bad I was confused
My idea: Carpet Bomb.

How about an "All about Turrets" week? Test the limits of your imaginations? xD
Set a couple of challanges to keep you busy for a while... xD (Damn your WDE entries are always awesome Kueken, I wanna see more of em!)
