I'm trying to make an electric fence unit that has an ability that connects two fences with a persistent damaging line of electricity.
I couldn't see how to directly get search area effects to search a line whose length would vary depending on the distance between the towers.
So, my strategy has been to make an ability which creates a mover which bounces back and forth rapidly between the two fence posts and have a damaging aura periodically hurt things within a small radius of the mover.
I just can't figure out how to periodically cause damage centered on the sitemover.
Any thoughts?
I have an alternative maybe. Theres a doodad that is a electric force field looking thingy and put a region slither under it and give a unit a degen behaviour whenever they stand in the forcefields region. But that is how i would do it probs isnt the best method. Alternatively your center a periodic damage sounds like you can have a search area ability that applies an damage ability of type behaviour on the mover but im kinda new to sc2 editing, those would be 2 methods i would try
The trouble is I can't figure out how to center the search area ability on the mover.
The field for where it is targeting seems to only allow for 'target unit/point', 'caster unit' etc...
Which I guess are references defined automatically when the ability is used.
But the sitemover isn't the target or caster of any ability.
I might be able to do it with regions somehow like you suggest, I'll look more into them.
Try giving the fence a search area for other fences which then launches rapid invisible dummy missiles which has a behavior on the missile unit that searches for enemies within a radius of the missile and applies damage?
