Been messing with every field in the models section it seems, and just getting stupider the more I attempt it, lol. Basically all I want to do is pick out a specific Infested Civilian Model, in particular the one with the single tentacle on his Left Side, and also wanting to pick out a specific Colonist model for another unit. I'm to the point of having thought myself stupid, any help be greatly appreciated.
Well after looking into the editor, to then be able to give you an answer, I got stupid too XD
But you can create a new model and select the Assets/Units/Zerg/InfestedColonist/InfestedColonist00.m3; InfestedColonist01.m3 or InfestedColonist02.m3 files. The variation thing (different variations in one model) is where I gave up :D
Yea, that was my first attempt with the 00, 01, 02, it got mad at me and gave me the sphere. For some reason it requires InfestedColonist.m3, then you have to somehow choose a variation inside the model from there. Unfortunately, I don't know how to accomplish this, tried about every field the model field had to no avail.
Under the Models data type you find the :Model field references the whole folder containing all variations and not just a single model. Make a new one and select the model you want. Also the Variations - Probability field can set a 100% bias to a specific variation.

Already had a new model made, but tried picking out infestedcolonist01.m3 again anyways, only to get the sphere again. Was playing with probability, that didn't go anywhere either, probably because I have no idea what the numbers in it mean as I'm used to having probability be assigned a percentage of 0 to 100, not some number -1 to who knows what.
I'm wondering if there is more going on then one variation here as well, thought I only saw 3 types of tentacles that could pop out, but upon closer inspection I am also noticing the hair style can slightly differ with each too. Could definitely use some more help on this, as I'm pretty clueless on this matter.
Look at the events for the actor. They use a Texture Select By Slot event action to alter the texture set used by the unit. In short on actor creation it randomly changes the texture the unit uses to add some more variety.
I see it all right, still don't know what to do with it though.... Me and actors/models don't get along anywhere near as well as effects/behaviors/units do.
Make a new Unit actor from scratch use the Texture Select By ID event action as listed in the tutorial in my signature if you want a specific variation. Also with the civilian models do not forget the Animations (Required) field. This field is for .m3a files and civilians/infested civilians use them for the animations.

While I don't doubt you are right, I am obviously following poorly. Sadly enough I even did that tutorial a couple weeks back, guessing there is part of it I just don't get. Thanks for trying to help in any case, all I'm successfully doing is acquiring a headache over here, so gonna work on things I understand for awhile. Suppose it isn't the end of the world if they get 3 possible variations for the unit...
Here. This is so much quicker and requires no model editing and can be used on any unit/model with multiple variations, and all you need to do is have 1 extra Event in your actor.
Actor Events+
UnitBirth.InfestedCivilian ]
ModelSwap InfestedCivilian (variation)1 }
]The unit you are looking for is Infested Terran (Campaign)(ID is InfestedCivilian) to have it show up as InfestedCivilian
}the model is actually called InfestedCivilian
Variation 0 is tentacles on both sides, variation 2 is tentacle on the right only.
Model swapping to itself allows you to force a variation.
You now get the Infested Terran showing up with only the tentacle on the left. The texture swaps are still in so they get the varying textures so they all don't look the exact same, but the base model is.
Thank you so much for that BorgDragon, blew probably 4-6 hours trying to figure that one out. Your explanation took me a whole minute to implement and test. Me and actors/models still don't get along so good, but we getting more on speaking terms, slowly.

You only get variations if the :Model field is selecting a folder and not an individual model. This appears as a sphere in the previewer.
