Ability that creates a dummy unit that puts an effect on the unit that created it that orders the unit to attack. Dummy has a buff that keeps it alive while it is being attacked :P.
Make a persistent ability that triggers the same effect as your unit's weapon, set the period to whatever the weapon's attack speed is and flag it as channeled, and the period count to -1, then make a new Effect - Target ability "Attack Ground."
Then when you give the order to attack the ground the unit will channel the effect until you give it any other orders (which will automatically interrupt the channeling.)
Yeah but then I imagine your going to have to go and mess with the actors and make it so the turrets and models use their attack animation rather than channel animation when the ability is being cast.
i need help with something like this too. i am creating a fishing mini game, but i can't find a way to make a attack ground ability because i suck with the data editor t.t
edit: The "WEAPON" requires a unit as a target, you might be able to remove such requirement, however most weapons would need to be reworked., there may be a conflict with the attack command as well, not near an editor to test.
I wana do weapon that can attack ground and cause splash damage (missile weapon), but I cant find a way to do it.

Atleast you can do "attack ground" type of attack, by creating invisisible dummy and attacking it. I found no other way :/

I would do some variant of the Raynor - Grenade Toss ability if you're looking to target a spot on the ground to launch an attack.
I'm actually using grenades in my map and I can throw them on the ground and hit nothing if I wanted.
