Whenever my baneling acquires aggro (comes into combat range) of an enemy unit,
it seems to alert nearby units too? What is happening here and how do I stop it?
he's right for example, if you position three units in a triangle a healthy distance from each other but close enough, if you approach the closest one, all units "in range" of the unit, will respond. even though, the other units were BEHIND, the unit you approached.
All blizzard damage fields have "Hurt Enemy" and "Help Friend" set as notify flags I believe, so it's not the banelings damage that triggers the call for help but the marines damage effect. Not sure whether weapons have AI notify effects as well.
Well you did say the marines are not checked by default, what about the banelings?
"Hurt Enemy" and "Help Friend" set as notify flags
Also maybe check the events of your banelings, for anything that has to do with being near the enemy or atttacking. There might be a call other actors near unit for help kinda thing.
Yes there is a little known "Call for Help" built into sc2. You can change its radius if you want to call units further away. I think its default was 4 then blizzard changed it to like 1 in a patch. It only works for units that deal splash damage. ie. Archons shoot a unit, that unit takes splash damage which then triggers its call for help based on either blizzard default or user changes.
You can make any unit do splash damage. Just give it .01 damage or something if you just want that effect to invoke call for help. ie. you don't want a marine to actually have splash damage but you want what ever it shoots to send a "call for help" so the units will converge in from further away.

Try the Call For Help search flag in the Damage effect?

the other units join the aggro before damage is even dealt
You sure it has to do with the unit actually attacking and not just you are moving into their aquisition range?

????? when you move near a unit and come within its aggro range, it comes after you.
it also alerts units around it and they too come after you....
So how can you tell that you are not just moving into the aquisition range of the other units as well?

Still say he should try the call for help flag in the damage effect.

I believe there's a flag somewhere named "call for help". It's either under weapon or damage.

See if disabling stuff at the marine helps.
Nah, Those dont make a difference. They are not checked for the Marine by default.
OK this is interesting...... I took 3 banelings and put them in a triangle formation
I also took 3 marines and put them in a triangle formation.
If i get near one corner of the triangle with my marine, all 3 banelings come after me.
BUT only one marine will come after me on the marine triangle.
Why the difference?

Nice necro. Still good answer.
