Hello guys, Im new to the site and I have one very important question. I am making a Melee 1on1 map called Talis, and Im trying to make a new type of Xel'Naga Tower. I can't seem to do it though, I am trying to make it shoot. The model is a Xel'Naga Turret. I used a duplicate Xel'Naga Tower first, which failed. Then I duplicated a Photon Cannon which still failed. Can anyone help?
And yes, Im positive. What Im looking for is to have a unit stand by it (like normal towers) except instead of vision, it shoots your enemies. I have the Tower Capture Ability on it too :/
In the model previewer you can look at the attachment points of models in the lower right. The TurretZ attachment point is required for turrets to work. As structures cannot turn they need turrets to point their weapons in the right direction. A crude work around is to give the weapons an arc of 360 but this looks bad. If the model lacks this attachment point you can use a model that does have one as the Unit actor and set the opacity to 0 via events while your actual model of interest is an attachment.
@Kelivia: How's it working? That model doesnt have the animations. If you're going for a Protoss or Xel'Naga looking turret you will have to settle if it anyway. The New Folsom turrets work perfectly though.

Never stopped Kueken531 from making awesome creatures just because they lacked animations.

And by the way, if it might help, I can try to get an image of what Im talking about.

Welcome to sc2mapster! Feel free to send me a PM if you need anything or have any questions :D
Although Data editing is not my strong point... Are you sure you have the photon cannon weapon on the xel naga tower?

Thank you for the welcome.

You need to edit the Xel'Naga Tower 'Capture' ability. Go to the Stats tab and check 'share control'. It wont attack autoamtically though.
Wow, thanks! Its actually working!
Sure the model has a turret attachment point?

And here is just an idea for you, one I use in my own maps. Check the New Folsom Turret actor and models, they're great for neutral turrets too.

Thanks for the idea. Hey, since Im finished, anyone wanna try it out for me? This way I can see what I need to add or any more ideas.
As long as it has a turret attachment point you should be fine.

Exactly what do you mean by that? Im not one to know everything in the Data Editor.

This map demonstrates the second principle.

Is it possible to have someone 'make' the TurretZ attachment point on a model?
It is alot more work than just using a 0 opacity one and having an attachment.

Why not the make the Watch Tower also shoot photons at enemies, it would fit right and look normal. :/

@DrSuperEvil: Of course, there are ways around it and a creative mapper can come to wonderful effects without animations.
In this case I'd suggest making it turnable, so it would face its target, The base would turn too but I don't think it will be a problem.
