Well, this is embarrassing, but when I try to export to .m3, and try to view it in the editor, it's empty, no model. I don't even see the gray sphere. I'm using 3DS Max 9 and trying to understand why it's not exporting properly/not showing up.
I don't know if this is relevant to the problem, but when I imported the models into 3DS Max for manipulation, I had to uncheck Animate Objects because it kept giving me "Import Failed: Unknown property: 'position' in undefined."
Just create a new material in material editor called StarCraft II Material and apply it to the mesh :)
It's just like you'd want to create Multi/Sub-Object or Standard or Top/Bottom material that are default in max. The M3 plugin adds new type of material - StarCraft II Material.
I converted the file, and I never have problems with the models in my mod. You can't upload the model in m3?

Convert the mesh to editable mesh and apply the StarCraft II Material.

I converted the model to mesh and poly, but it's still not showing up in the editor/.m3 file. What is the StarCraft II Material?

Ah! Thank you!
I updated the 3DS Max file with the material and uploaded the m3 file: http://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/devourer3dsmaxmodel/files/
I just noticed that I still have to edit parts of the larva segments to fix the "see through" problem.
