For my map it's protoss vs dark protoss. I need dark version or light version of dark templar, prisoner zealot, stone zealot, zeratul, hydbrid destroyer, and the obelisk. It would complete my map if I could get those. Otherwise I would have to go to the overused red vs blue layout.
Isn't there an upgrade called "Dark Protoss" in the Campaign dependencies? And that if you use a trigger, it'll make that protoss player dark? Just a thought.
You are correct about the dark protoss and the trigger. But the units I listed don't gain the dark attributes. The Hybrid destroyer isn't protoss so he wouldn't gain them. But he could have his energy tentacles turned green to be similar to dark protoss, or just turned red.
You can try using actor tint events, Or get someone to retexture those units (I don't think the latter is THAT hard for someone with a good image editing program cause it's all just changing colours) :(
Too bad i don't know how to edit textures :( Can't find any 3D modelling/texturing tutorials for sc2...
I actually did some basic re-texturing to get some good dark protoss models as well (got some nice dark scout/phoenix/observer).
As Almaity says, its not that hard. I had no experience in texture or model editing whatsoever, I just picked the model and the textures, opened the texture with gimp and changed the colors a bit. Some google helped with opening and saving .dds files (you need an extra plugin), some browsing on this site showed how to duplicate a model and make it use different skins (can be done in text editor, no model editing program needed)
I am not at home currently, so I have no access to the files, but I will come back probably tomorrow, then I will gladly show you, how the results look like and explain, how I did it exactly (if noone does this before ;) )
I can do retexturing for you like i di with the dark collossus, and then i can also do the model, but it wont have any of the particle effects with the model due to the current version of the exporter.
but i would be happy to help out if u want, just give me a lil credit with textures and what not lol ^_^

My self-made dark protoss seem to have all effects, it seems. Could you give an example for a particle effect, which gets lost? (I have no idea about modelling, but as stated my re-textured models seem to work just fine)

You dont lose particles if you do this since you dont add the textures to the model through 3Ds max, therefore dont have to export from 3Ds, which means no loss of particles.
But examples of particles: Zealot hair. Well, thats the only on-unit particles i can think of... Other particle effects are all the fancy special effects stuff like explosions, the MS vortex and other stuff..

Ah, he was referring to the 3ds max exporter, I thought, he means the Galaxy editor exporter or something ;)
€ some examples, ingame shots with blue team color.
I did only recolor the diffuse texture (so lights are still blue and not green like "real" dark protoss), but recoloring emissive and specular should not be hard.
If you could do the units I listed I would be glad to give you credit for the dark protoss units. Although I'm not sure how to do a prisoner zealot, could you make a normal looking version like give him golden colors to match protoss armor? I'm not entirely sure but what falls under the particle effect? Would a hybrid destroyer's energy tentacles be considered particles? Out of the units mentioned which have particles?
Those look slightly too dark. It might just be me since they're blue and not red. When put near other natural dark protoss do they look similar, like they belong?

You might be right, they look slightly too dark. Not by much, though, its mostly the blue team color.
I agree. Also, dark protoss are more of the "green" kind of dark protoss. Those are blue. :(
Thats mostly the team color again (and some little effects could be done green, thats most likely done in the emissive texture, which I did not touch until now, but should be easily changeable)
I added a picture showing off actual dark protoss units and some of my self-made ones in different team colors. Again, scout and phoenix using recolored textures by me, void ray and warp prism are the blizzard models. I think they are fairly good, if you think of my non-existent experience in texture or model editing before. Someone, who is familiar with that could achieve much better results probably.
Well for the phoenix and the scout they really need the green where there is blue. I'm use to seeing dark protoss as red, green, and black. Usually because it shows them as red in the previewer and in game player 1 is red. But with the blue team color they seem too different because there is too much blue and no green.
I think both the pheonix and the scout need green on their windows and wings, but the scout would also look a lot neater if its rockets in the back were green too. :D The observer needs green on its eye. I think thats it though. :D
The glows that don't change with team color should be the same green used by the rest of the "dark" units. I say try that before permanently changing team colored glows to green. If that makes any sense.
I played around a bit and without model editing experience (and without any model editor lol) its not that easy. I managed to change the scout glow colors to all green, but some parts of the phoenix won't change no matter what I do.
However, with the method I used, I had to re-import some standard textures with different names, otherwise the model files get corrupted (when editing them with text editor, the texture file's names must have the same length as the original textures, so I cannot use glow_green3.dds insteand of glow_blue3.dds for example, but have to re-import it with a matching name)
Some kind of texture path changer would be nice, however I did not find anything similar.
I do not know, where the problem with the phoenix comes from, I edited every texture, which contained the blue-ish lights and made them green (in the diffuse, emis and emissive as well as specular and even the overload texture), dunno where the blue light still comes from.
Another screenshot with the new versions with some original dark protoss units, in red and green team colors.
€ the textures became a little "purple-ish", though, could be changed as well. But again, this is just to show that even someone without huge experience can make dark protoss units ;) (well, I have collected some experience now, though :p )

I requested this a little while ago and regrettably forgot about it. Maybe TheSnottyMidget would still be willing to help out?

Tinting works, but looks awful, seriously.

I would be interested in these, too.
I wonder if Snotty even read that I would like him to make those units. It'd be nice to know if he is working on them.
