Hey guys, I want to do a project that involves getting models from other games and putting it into this engine..
I know it's possible here's some examples of it happening:
So how is this done? I know that you're not really supposed to due to copyright, but it's only going to be for my own personal use and wont be uploaded.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
If you google getting wow models into sc2 you'll get a number of tutorials and since blizzard makes both maps it's ok to use wow models in sc2. The space marine model is somewhere on this site I'll post it if I find it, I'm not sure if those models are plagiarizing as they may have been just made to look like the space marine. As for the skyrim dragon I couldn't tell you what he did exactly and that one is definitely not ok to use. I'm not sure where you could get it anyway.
I'm pretty sure the space marine was from Dawn of War.. as for it being "not okay to use" surely its fine if I'm not uploading/distribiting etc... just testing for myself :)
To be specific I want to get models of Dota 2 but I don't know how
No it's cool to use if it's not online. But I don't think it's ripped from dawn of war solely because when I played with it it had the marine animations.
As for dota models you'd probably need to find a way to import them into 3DS max or blender and use one of the various exporting scripts written by blizzard or the community to make it compatible with the editor.
FIrst, you need to get a model for 3d max by downloading it from somwhere or ripping from the game. Ripping can be performed by 3D Ripper DX program, for example.
Then you open it by 3d max with Art Tools installed, do all required stuff, like creating material, adding animations etc. And then export as m3 and import that m3 with the editor.

Couldn't he have given it marine animations? But fair point..
I guess it's a good thing I've been learning blender :P Thanks for the advice..

If you use blender you'll need to use blenders m3addon. Look it up it's on here somewhere it's by println.

Really? All models are free for download with textures and all, some are even in multiple formats!
