If I were to export the diffuse/emissive of units and recolor them (like these) then how would I imort them again so they show up on the unit models? And would they have teamcolor? (I would be using Irfanview)
Another way to change the texture for a unit is to override the default.
This is simpler and less time consuming for multiple textures, but it doesn't allow you to use the SC2 default... as well they've been overwritten.
To do this, when importing your textures choose "Assets/Textures/" as your Import Path
Save and restart your editor, new textures should be the default.
New textures will only override if they have the exact same name,
for example: to change the zergling diffuse the file must be named Zergling_Diffuse.dds
You can look up the slot texture names in the Previewer under the materials tree
Just rig the model under the Models data type using the names of the texture to change found in the previewer. Make a texture from the Textures data type with the texture you want and then under the actor events for your actor use the texture select by id action event to change the texture just like the dark protoss do.

I think you'll need to use that "texture select by id" thing. And team color will stay unchanged if you won't change the alpha layer.
Yeah, the texure select by ID event gives more flexibility so you can use several custom skins for a single model or have a unit with variations.
