Those white and black spots look like low poly cage intersected with the high poly model.
Correct you are sir! I usually just use it as a basis and clean/adjust it up in photoshop. I don't fiddle around with the cage too much unless the areas are excessively prominent ( like the white spot around the ribs ) or if its in a highly detailed area.
Sorry about the old theme but did you ever release the starship troopers models? On any map? I've seen many starship troopers maps but with zerg models and it would actually be awesome to have some map with these. I might even try one myself but for now I'd like to shoot some bugs.

To tell the truth I had actually forgot about releasing them xD.
I have uploaded the mod file I was working with and the test map I used to Bnet.
If you would like to mess around or build your own map, you can add the Dependency from battle.net in the Editor, Called "SST Bugs" (note: This was my working Mod, so it has alot of junk still in it.)
If you just want to see them in action, the map on Bnet is called "SST Test Map"
Wow thanks a lot! I'll give them a try on your map and probably check out your mod and see first it's current state so I can make a map. Of course, all credit will be given, you make some pretty awesome models ;)

lol nope, its legs are based off the hind legs of a actual wolf (with some stylized liberties.) Protoss have a Hock instead of an ankle, a trait that is commonly associated with dogs, cats, and other quadrupedal mammals. So in retrospect, would that make Protoss more wolfish? o_O?
Thanks, the fur was a bitch to paint! I never really painted fur in a stylized manner before, and none of the tricks I use for scales or other body texture looked good. Ended up looking at the texture work for the Pandaren from WoW and Annie's Teddy from LoL and tried to copy that. Overall really happy with how it came out.
Texture WIP update: roughing out ideas for detailing, gonna go for a nature/Thorn Knight concept. debating how I want to add the filigree to the boots. Once I get the concept ideas worked out, im going to conform it to more of a WoW armor style.
If you are heading for a nature theme knight, i would say lower thre focus on steel armor and drop more nature motiffs, like maybe a tree branch overruning most of the armor and stuff.
I've been messing around trying to find a good balance of Nature vs Metal. Too much nature makes him feel more like a Druid, not enough and the theme gets lost.
Similar to your suggestion, I'm going to experiment with adding vines to accent the gloves, boots, and shoulders.
Taking a small break from 3d to practice 2d animation.

On the upside the fur looks really good. I like the wolf thigh I'm not sure I see the Protoss similarities.

Trying a new animation workflow incorporating Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash; kinda choppy but meh, worked for what I was testing.
