@TheAlmaity: With those arms and legs its one more cartoonish unit to our collection. We need to make the SCU and Clanker more unique, different from each other. They need to have their own personality. Right now I can't see them in a SC2 game. I like the Scout Drone I created, but maybe only because I used the utility bot as a base. I'm still waiting to check Cookies' next version of his worker idea.

EDIT TWO: No more time today >.> Still have to add an in-motion picture of the clanker and more detailed pictures of the legs. This was sort of hurried so it looks terrible... Guns should be more scary looking (3 barrels maybe?), legs should look less odd and a lot heavier. The legs have spikes at the end to ground the unit (because of the recoil of its weapons), when moving it curls up into a ball and rolls (Which is what the spiky back armor is for)
Yet more star wars references- http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Droideka
What is with people and starwars droids recently. Still think the robots from the movie Virus minus the human organs fit more into the overall theme than the seperatist droid armies.
I'm trying to avoid the star wars theme. I am a fan of droids, but yeah.
As I said, Virus also felt too organic looking. I'm trying to get something impossible to relate too... something that actually looks like a machine built by aliens... idk...
Robots need to be angular with uneven surfaces and pave patches of emtal welded onto them. Lets try and avoid the recent fashion of aerodynamic egg shapes and other smooth and sleek designs. They are not bound by the laws of symmetry that puny organic life is. They are mineral so having patches of space debris caught in them or mineral deposits forming on their surfaces is ok.
What about getting inspiration from the Cybran race from supreme commander?

yes that's a good point too... perhaps we could combine badass with junky... maybe have a trashed robot with one tiny arm made of improvised parts, a torso of scrappy layered plating, and the other hand could be a gigantic tank cannon
i dont know if anyone has every played champions of norath (i only played the sequel) but in the second game, return to arms, there was a boss fight with a giant junk robot... you can probably look it up on google images or an old walkthrough...
@thepumaman1: 3dsmax maybe? That's the one we need in order to have sc2 models.
@DrSuperEvil: Junky clanky funky robots that use scraps as parts. Understood. What about some of them actually using parts from other races? Like pumaman's idea of a robot with a (siege tank) cannon as an arm or another with some protoss plating around it?
Here's a concept using my idea. The Clanker is supposed to be a round strider that creates a shield. So I took the Science Vessel hull and gave it Immortal legs. This is just one fast example of the ideas we could use. I don't believe the salvaged parts should make the whole model, we need to add scraps and make it look more different from the original units used. Maybe one or two pieces of metal on the legs and more scrapped parts around the hull. It also needs a weapon instead of a dish.

What about beams welded to where the units connect; looking like it holds them together? And then they we could have portions where you can see inside the pieces and look at the unit's "skeleton" that allowes the pieces to all work together.
@AtikLYar: Yeah it would look great. And the good part is we have a huge amount of models we can take from SC2. We just need to seek the ones with parts we can use. I guess it wouldnt be too hard for a modeller to put them together and animate them. For this clanker as an example a modeller could start with the immortal model, so it would already have walk animations and then replace body and turret with the Science Vessel hull and a turret.
@DrSuperEvil: Maybe one of the legs could be a stalker leg instead? Ahh and each unit would need some model variations, just like Dark Templar, and each variation with some different parts. Symmetry is the result of using those models, not my intention.
And here is the unicycle Scout Drone idea reworked. Of course we can reskin them to look rusty and old.
This gave me an idea of the droideka or whatever and just a unit idea in general. Have a unit that roles around in the shield bubble and lowers it when it attacks or something. Also instead of giving it a weapon, if you can control the radar dish, make it shoot rays out of the dish.
EDIT: The pic before your newest one, with immortal legs
@Keyeszx: Shooting rays out of the dish would be nice. Maybe model variations could have different visual effects for their weapons, as long as the damage and range srent affected. So one unit could use the dish and another could shoot bullets.
Here's a Doid idea. I though Dread was a good name to avoid using the obvious one. I used dark probe model so they would look different. And also players would think: wtf? where did they get dark protoss parts?

we should make at least one of the units look... cool...
this concepts are brilliant artwise, but they need that gamelike appeal of integrity/shootyfacesoffyness
i would gladly help with model making IF i know how to make models for SC2
i've made custom models before, but i used a proffesional studio art program
for example: my profile picture. I made it :D here's the full resolution version

Looks like a gundam. Still very impressive but I thought we were trying to avoid humanoid,

it's not a candidate photo, just a proof-of-talent image :D
wish i could help but like i said, not good with models for sc2, just with studio animation/modeling programs

Hmm... The picture I had in my brain did not really involve any other race's objects re-used. But it would certainly be an interesting idea...
I just got an awesome idea; What if the T3 walker was something like a Thor/Battlecruiser/Collossus/Carrier hybrid?
Has potential. We need more concept art.
Has an afterthought the game rise of nations rise of legends had some interesting robot looking stuff.

Why not just look through deviant art and find some pictures you like and then draw a picture based off the style or theme they used?

How about less legs from the same unit and overall less symmetry.

Like the scout, but I do not think the droid should hover. Maybe give it some legs/treads/wheels and break the head spike/scrapify it.
