So, I have exported one of the decal m3s and then tried importing it into 3ds Max. Well, yes, it imported without any issues, but only the boundary sphere and a bone were generated, as well as no material, at all. I want to assign a new material into it, but so far came with nothing.
Can someone help me with this? The decal thing, I mean?
You remember those decals used to decor Terran installations, space stations and stuff? Y'know, those with Caution and Restricted? There are m3 model files to them, but how do they manage to use their textures is literally unknown. And when I try to put my material, export and import back in the editor... notihng. You check the model in the Cutscene editor and you find out there's no material on it. (Those decal models do use materials)
Here. As you can see, the model file (m3) has a material, somehow in it, with the diffuse and the normal maps. When I exported it from the Editor and imported into 3ds Max, it only comes the bound sphere and the bone, and no material assigned. Then, I try to assign my material, and put it back in the editor, I see it in the cutscene editor, that's when I notice there's zero materials in it.
I already tried creating a plane, but it'll remain that way and won't even bend in ramps and stuff.
I remember that the visual part of the decal is actucally a dds, You can easily replace just the file image to something else and it shows the decal in the same manner. Great way to do outlines btw.
I don't want to replace any decals, I want to make new ones, hence why I exported the m3s. I mean, Blizzard could and can do this kind of stuff, just look at that and the Terran/Toss tarmacs.
That projector object needs some obvious tweaks, like making it not disappear after time. It's comprehensively documented, so you won't have problems with making it work.

All you need is to use Sc2 Projectors in Sc2 Art Tools.

I've just added the projector and the material and still it hadn't shown up. And it displays the material correctly.
/edit At the Cutscene Editor, I mean.
SUCCESS!
With every good work, there's a rough beginning.
