I want to make a reaper that can pivot like a phoenix. I made it in the data editor, but it has some minor annoyances like improper target sites that bother me. Anyone know how I could edit the model?
Here's my notes, while looking at the Collosus model:
1.Two parts, Upper part and Lower part have central bones. Bones that serve as pivot of all limbs.
2.Collosus: A bone Dummy_Turret (not skinned) is linked to the pivot bone of the lower part.
3.Col: An attachment "Ref_TurretZ" is linked to the Dummy_Turret bone (named Dummy_Turret_Parrent in this case).
4. This Ref_TurretZ attachment is then added into the Skin modifier as a bone. It is given vertices in absolute weight of 1.0. These vertices are of the abdomen of the collosus.
5.On Animation: Since it is linked to the root bone of the lower part, whatever animation the rootbone takes will affect the vertices weighed into Ref_TurretZ.
6. On Sequences:
i. Stand 01 are given two groups of animations with the same sequence number. One for the upper body and the lower part (legs). This goes for others like walk[], StandChannel[], etc. Except for Stand[0], which contains anims for lower body, and static ones on the upper body. Only some bones have static anims or like bind anims keyed at start and end with no change.
a. Stand 01 [19] - the first of two in the list - has nothing for the lower part. Has in upper part.
b. Stand 01 [19] - the second of the two in the list - has only base pose keys at start and end of the track, and it's only for the
SC2SplRbn01.Endpoint (which is an unskinned bone, linked to Head which is skinned and is the root of all parts of the upper body. Above it is Dummy01 bone which is not skinned. Dummy01 Bone houses all upper body things like bones and attachments.)
ii. Walk A..P[1..16] - has keys only for the bottom part (leg movement) and each one describes walking to a direction. From South, counter-clockwise. SC2SplRbn01.Endpoint of the upper body also has keys at start and end.

I wasn't aware it's even possible with the tools. Has anyone ever released a model with a turret?

Yes, it has been done. Alright, so I understand what you are saying Gna, but I don't know what tools to use. Any suggestions?

I can't figure this stuff out for the life of me, 3ds max is super complicated
