Hey all first thread for me so be easy. Though its seems this forum is very forgiving. Anyway, I've got the importing exporting of model geometry animation and bone sets down, the only thing i am having trouble with is importing the textures in direct conjunction with the model themselves. Every time I load a model from a SC2 asset it has a running list and says these textures were not found in your 3DS maps directory and will not be applied to your model. When I override and import anyway, it gives me a great model and no textures. Been extracting and copying the texture assets for a while and i cant seem to get them in the right place. Any help would be wonderful.
they're in wherever you got the models from but Assets\Textures. Extract that onto your desktop or somewhere. If that doesn't work, press M and then manually link all the bitmaps manually through the material editor.
Uh no... Just so that 3dsmax will associate your model with those bitmaps... What EXACTLY are you trying to do? Like which models and which skins??
Cause you're saying that you have no skins whatsoever?? Try to keep everything into one thread btw....
Well just as an experiment I'm trying to import the Raynor marine model into 3DS max and its assocaited textures. I did import the textures but they're not in the directory that 3DS is looking for. I have extracted the texture assets a few times in a few places, all DDS right now. Import goes fine with the model, nothing on the textures.
Press M while in 3dsmax to go into material editor. Load the bitmaps you want. Drag and drop the corrsponding sphere ontop onto your model. Make sure "Show Standard Map in Viewport" is clicked in the material editor.
Put the textures in your 3dsMax\Maps directory and the script will look there by default
Setup a new maps directory for the script to look in. This can be done through the menu system: Customize->Configure User Paths...->External Paths Tab then click add to add a new directory.
The script iterates through every 'external path' looking for the bitmap file in each.

You mean go by asset to asset, i.e. eyes to eyes texture as a bitmap material, armor to armor texture as bitmap material?

Would anyone post a link for a 3ds max 2011 texture mapping tutorial? Greatly appreciated (in advance)!
