it was far not that easy. first of all, there is a doodad what looks like this but it has no working bones. secondly, it had animations but it was not working properly. and if you can just use it as an actor for a unit and give shooting animation and it will work like this pls inform me thx but no problem xd
I guess it's just the clarity behind the words you use... "I made the Audi R8 in my front yard" is completely different thant "I added cardboard spoilers to my Audi R8".
Don't get me wrong, the xel-naga turret's pretty awesome. Just try to keep in mind the what certain words imply and mean.
I'm afraid I have to agree with the others on this one. You did not make the model, but you did make the animations/attachments.
With that said, it looks pretty neat. Good job.
My only gripe about it is that when the target is close to it, it looks a bit off due to the angle of the top part. So it looks as though the projectiles are magically changing trajectory as they are flying out.
nice!
maybe this should have its own thread.. but since you made kind of what i wanna ask i just ask here:)
is it possible to make the upper part of a ground unit become a turret? i believe this would be extremely usefull to ALOT of people.
if it is possible im willing to get 3ds max just to get it done if no one else will do it...
Guyz, I have to say that you are rude. He didnt make model from scratch, but hey...
Just re-write your text; "hello, i made a model named xel'naga turret." into "hello, I edited xel'naga model, adding animations and improving the model overall with also converting xel'naga turret doodad into animated model."
Or something within those lines. Coz people will continue bitchin and nitpicking...
Its not custom model but its custom work.
Hey I am making some protoss unit similar to dragoon, and I will probbly use Stalker animations instead of animating the model just to spare some time.
Gj on that. I think lots of people will use this in their TD maps. Even blizz might animate it later, or you could suggest them that.
well i am agree whit that the title is not fully correct, i corrected it.
soon i will release a public model which is more bug free. this one has some problems. in two or three days it will be out.
i am working whit other models. whey will be fully unique.
right now i need some help if someone can. the 3d max plugin is a but bugged and i cant find the target bone... if anyone know how to create a target bone pls pm me.
if you want to make a dragoon model is better to use immortal body and photon cannon turret animation. its will be much much easier if you would use them. good luck whit your project
hello,
your ref_turret helper object is missing.
here is a picture of the photon cannon bone structure.
use this and it will work
this modell will never face up. this cant be done in starcraft as far as i know
I don't get what you try to tell me with that 3dsmax screenshot and what is ref_turret helper object? :(
And what I meant by "facing up" is: In your video the tower shoots from the point that is facing towards the ground. I want the missile (or beam, whatever..) to come out from the opposite side and so shooting in the air.
hello,
now i know what are you wanted to tell me.
well this is a bit complicated but i finally know what are you talking about. it can be done easily, tomorrow i will write down how to do it but you will need 3dsmax for it. you need some more helper objects to do it
the problem whit the rotate. the best way to get it work is to copy the photon cannon then replace the copied one model to the xel naga turret then costumize it

Well, exactly the customizing part seems to be the problem. I'm kind of a noob to the editor just working with it for about a week now and spending hours of hours each day with fixing problems like that. Frustrating.
there is no way to be noob in sc2 editor. its just the most retarded frustrating bugged editor what ever i seen in my whole life. its a one mile step back from w3 editor and sc1 editor too. i dont know what blizzard thought

They look nice in that video. .
Huh?
What?
Huh?
That model already exists as a doodad.
You didn't make the model, you just used it as an actor for a unit, gave it a shooting animation, and retextured some of them blue.
Please correct me if I'm wrong cus I seem to be missing something.

Are you planning to release this to public? :P

Hey, that's really cool. Ignore the haters, adding bones and animations to an existing model isn't trivial. Good job.

Nice work! I tried to get this turret to work b4 but I couldn't figure it out..Maybe now I can use this one!
hello, models is available to download
http://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/xelnaga-turret/files/1-xelnaga-turret/
its free to use
just mention my name in credits
thank you
Nice work!
Just made a new model from scratch and attached your model to it. Works fine, but I want to make an air tower of it, so I'm facing 2 issues right now:
1. My tower with that model doesn't rotate and does not face an enemy while shooting
2. I want to face an enemy with the upper side of the model (where the crystal is placed)
Any suggestions on that would be appreciated.
