Where can I learn all aspects of making models? Not just character models, but clothing and extra pieces added on to characters and environmental pieces such as buildings or cars or anything that isn't a person; cars, trees, rocks, buildings, boats, railing, pipes, etc.
Thanks :) I'm really eager to see how you do things... my goal is to obtain enough skills with 3Ds Max to being able to edit some of the current sc2 structure models. I need to create some different-looking variants of them. It should be easier than animated units since the structures don't have animations, right?

They do, don't they? They have building animations, casting animation (for when upgrading or building a unit) and death animations. At least, I think?
Hah! Awesome! Just when I started to daydream about such tutorials I just came into this thread.....and...WOW! I can't wait for your YouTube video tutorials.
I have 0 skills in 3d modeling and I can't even draw normally to be honest...yet, I think your videos would help me damn lot! Thanks in advance!
Sincerely, Mike.
Will the video stays on youtube or will it be a live stream that can't be viewed when it's finished? And where is it located ? :O
I can propose you some nice subjects :D
1 How to make a ball of energy, that spins and glows! (Like Naruto's Rasengan)
2 How to make a manga character, that have basic animations such as punch and walk.
3 How to make a ton of animation on a unique character. (I know that in starcraft 2 editor their is a ton of animations 'varaiables'' and ''layers''. I mean, I can make the marines animate Stand A, Stand B and Stand C. How to make all these possible? And how to make a marine use them 3 in data?)
I would also like to suggest a tutorial on how to make some new "spell" effects. Could start by doing very basic ones; I think SC2 assets lack in this department for things other than missiles, explosions, and lightning.
Well the reason it's lacking is because particles are not supported in the current method of importing m3 files. But HotS editor, I assume it's for HotS only, will have a feature that connects directly with 3ds max so particles will be possible.
Ah I see; Oddly enough I remember one of the versions of the wowviewer was able to export a few of them (most did not work) yet the most current cannot. Hopefully the expansion will come with exporter tools that support being able to do this then.
Technical issues a side, I would still love to learn how to make these effects though!
Also, I found realy useful tutorial, which helped me alot. I recommend it to every noob in modelling. There are 5 parts. Each one is about 10 minutes. 1 and 2 parts explain how to model. The rest explain how to create a texture in photoshop and then apply it independently to each surface of a model. Author's charismatic, speaks emotionally and has a good spelling. The only thing which differs this video from starcraft related ones is that you need to choose "starcraft bitmap" instead of "bitmap" when u load texture file in part 5. There are the parts:
When modeling a person do you use the cube method where you make a cube or do you use cylinders? I know how to use the cube method but that doesn't make quality models. If someone could point me towards a tut of the cylinder method I would be grateful.
I personally use the cube method, but quite honestly I almost never model persons since it's not required in my field. I HAVE made some character attempts in the past and I've found the cube method the most flexible one.
Quality has nothing to do on either method, quality will always depends in your (or the modeler's) abilities and not on which method you use.

Is the Youtube version accessible yet? I'm really interested in your tutorials.

Same here, I sent him a message. Hoping for a reply next time he's on.

What a shame I havent heard about that earlier!

Yes, you're right of course. I completely forgot about that.

Would like to see that as well, but the problem is that afaik the current exporter doesnt support particle effects :(

Did he ever upload the first MM to a youtube account?
He would give us a link, I guess.
But we can learn from this tutorial, while we waiting for the xcorbo's one.
