Have you considered putting a visor on the Heroes of the Storm Raynor, and Tychus models, and making them team coloured?
Would work great as HD marine model variations.

Too many models, Everyone is going to ask for many things and that becomes a big mess. And some models are not going to like the original displayed.

Well, there's plenty of inspirations abound, though my personal favourite are the steel/pre-fab shanties from Titanfall. Maybe they'll help you get the colonial/backwater feel you're looking for. ;)
